In its seventh appearance at the UIL state volleyball tournament, Canyon Randall swept Aubrey 25-16, 25-17, 27-25 for the Class 4A title on Saturday at the Culwell Center.

Randall ends the season at 40-8 with its second title in program history.

The Raiders last won in 2009 when they swept Brenham in the 4A state championship.

Aubrey ends the season 39-10 with its first state tournament appearance since a 2A final in 2009. Senior Sydney Garrison had 14 kills and 14 digs in her final game. She is signed to Tarleton State.

Garrison led the DFW metroplex this season (regular season/playoffs) with over 750 kills. She had over 500 digs this season and finished with the most kills in Aubrey history with over 2,300.

After Aubrey couldn’t muster up any sort of spark in the first two sets, the Chaparrals rebounded in the third set to give Randall some nerves.

The game was tied at 16 before the Raiders led 19-17 to send the Chaps to a timeout. Aubrey came back to court and tied it at 19 and then Garrison had a kill to tie it at 20. Garrison had three more kills for Aubrey as the Chaps went down 23-21 to a 23-23 tie.

Kynadi Hall hit a solo block and the Chaps led 24-23 with set point. But the Raiders tied it at 24. The Raiders had champ point at 25-24 but the game was tied at 25 after a service error. Randall went off the block for a 26-25 lead and then got an ace that just trickled over the net for the title.

Annaleise Sevier and Meagan Szostek were second for Aubrey with six kills each. Olivia Starr led with 23 assists and Makayla Johnson added 12 digs.

Randall’s Jordyn Gove was voted state champ MVP with 12 kills and 15 digs. Sidney Soria had a game-high 37 assists.
