Thursday was a night of double headers for Fort Worth ISD as teams moved up games due to incoming severe weather Friday night. The second game to be played at Farrington Field on Thursday was Weatherford (7-3 overall, 4-3 District 3-6A) and Fort Worth Paschal (3-7 overall, 0-7).

“I just want both teams to get out here healthy and play a good game, especially the seniors,¨ Weatherford head coach Aubrey Sims said before the game.

For much of the first quarter both teams’ defenses were putting up a fight, not allowing a score, but at the 4:15 mark of the first quarter, Weatherford’s Melvin Polk scored the first touchdown of the night. Sammuel Roderick’s extra point was good and Weatherford led 7-0.

Paschal’s Kendrick Hayes began the second quarter scoring a touchdown with 9:33 left and Diego Paiva’s extra kick was good, tying the score at 7.

Weatherford quickly responded with yet another touchdown, this time by Isaiah King with another good extra point by Roderick. Shortly after, Weatherford did not give Paschal the chance to catch up as Polk scored his second touchdown of the night. Going into intermission the score remained 21-7.

The next score didn’t come until 1:18 left in the third quarter when Chris Gee connected with Will Henry for a Panthers’ touchdown, which brought the score to 21-13.

The fourth quarter saw a touchdown for Weatherford by Britton Burrows. Adding to the score once more, Roderick was successful with his third extra point attempt and the Roos led 28-13.

Weatherford sealed the win with its fifth touchdown with 1:20 left in the game. This score was made by Mich´Keal Melancon and after the extra point, the final score was 35-13.

But Weatherford would miss out on a playoff berth.

The Roos needed an LD Bell win over Euless Trinity to clinch, but Trinity won 27-24 in overtime.
