Introducing the 2022-23 Fort Worth Star-Telegram preseason all-area girls basketball team

The 2022 Texas high school girls basketball season is underway and look for the Fort Worth-area to shine again with some of the best players in the state.

Here is a look at the Star-Telegram preseason all-area awards and first-team selections.

Important dates

Most Valuable Player

Kylie Marshall, Sr., Mansfield Lake Ridge

College: Texas A&M

Last season: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 70 3-pointers

About Marshall: The versatile Marshall was among the leading scorers last season in helping the Eagles reach the regional quarterfinals. The top-ranked 2023 player in Texas according to HoopGurlz, Marshall was all-area first team and voted District 11-6A Co-Offensive MVP.

Offensive Player of the Year

Camryn Tade, Sr., Southlake Carroll

College: Undecided

Last season: 20.3 points, 7 rebounds, 67 3-pointers

About Tade: Last year’s all-area offensive MVP has led the Dragons to the regional tournament in back-to-back seasons and Carroll is primed for a third straight trip. Tade was voted District 4-6A MVP and has scored over 1,000 points in her career. Tade averaged 20 points per game for the majority of the season.

Defensive Player of the Year

Savannah Catalon, Sr., Mansfield Legacy

College: Seton Hall commit

Last season: District 8-5A Defensive MVP

About Catalon: Entering Year 4 with the Legacy varsity team, Catalon has been among the area’s best since her freshman season. The Broncos move up a class to 6A and one of the toughest districts in the state along with Duncanville, DeSoto, SGP, Cedar Hill and Lake Ridge.

Utility Player of the Year

Payton Hull, Sr., Peaster

College: Abilene Christian commit

Last season: 21.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 90 3-points

About Hull: The three-sport star enters her final season with the Greyhounds and was among the leading scorers in 2021-22. She was voted District 8-3A Co-MVP and a two-time all-state selection.
