Games of the night
Midlothian Heritage d. Joshua, 19-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 15-11
With both teams tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 8-5A, it was the Heritage Jaguars that picked up the five-set win and berth at Joshua on Tuesday night in the final game of the regular season.
Heritage improves to 11-5 in district and is tied for third along with Burleson. The two teams will play for seeding on Friday at Cleburne.
The winner awaits the second seed from 7-5A. The loser will start with Colleyville Heritage.
Joshua ends the season with a 10-6 district record.
Emilee Casey came out swinging in the decisive game with a kill and ace to put Heritage up 3-1. Joshua’s Addison Litke followed with a kill on the left side, but the Owls never led in the fifth. A Reagan Miller kill and a Joshua error gave the Jags a 5-2 lead leading to a timeout.
Two Joshua errors and another Casey kill pushed the lead to 9-5. Casey went off right side and Heritage continued to lead by four at 11-7 and then at 13-9. A Heritage error and Gabbie Maldonado’s kill gave Joshua back-to-back points and cut the lead to 13-11.
The Jags doubled up the Owls at 14-7 in the fourth set and then led 16-10 after a Casey kill. Joshua rallied behind two kills from Ashlynn Porter and a two Maldonado blocks to make it 20-18, but Joshua got no closer.
Joshua used a 6-1 run in the first set and Tyler Pool got an ace to give the Owls a 12-8 lead. Casey got three straight kills for Heritage and the Jags used a 6-0 run to lead 14-13. But Joshua went back in front sparked by a Cloey Dress ace and Maldonado kill off the slide. After Heritage cut the lead to 22-19, the Owls scored the next three to take a 1-0 lead.
Heritage took the second set highlighted by a Kameron Chilcut ace, a kill by Grace Sweeney and a block by Maycee Goerig. Casey finished off a Chilcut assist as the Jags tied the match at 1-1.
The Jags led 10-8 in third before the Owls went back in front 13-12. Goerig got another block for Heritage and the set was tied at 18. Maldonado went off the slide again, and the Owls took it on a Brooke Mason ace, Heritage error and kill on set point by Morgan Collier.
Southlake Carroll d. Fossil Ridge, 25-17, 24-26, 25-27, 25-18, 15-11
In another winner take all match, for fourth place in District 4-6A, the Dragons also rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat the Panthers. Carroll will be the No. 4 seed and start the playoffs against Weatherford.
Fossil Ridge ends the year with 22 wins, the program’s first 20-win season since 2016.
Numbers
26: With Carroll’s win on Tuesday night, the Dragons locked up a playoff appearance for the 26th straight season, a run that first started in 1997, according to Athletics Department. During that span, Carroll has gone to the regional tournament eight times, state tournament twice and the 1998 state championship match.
1000: In her final high school volleyball game, Crowley senior Jaden Polovina notched up her 1,000th assist of the season during the Eagles 3-1 win over North Crowley. Polovina smashes her previous high of 617 from her junior year. The McPherson College commit has deformities in both hands, yet is among the top setters in the Fort Worth area.
2001: Everman is headed to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years. The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season with a 12-2 record in District 6-5A and 18-18 overall. Everman will start the playoffs against Saginaw.
Results
Lake Worth d. Bridgeport, 18-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-19
The Bullfrogs came back after dropping the first set to beat Bridgeport in four and secure a playoff berth in District 8-4A.
Lake Worth finishes with a 4-6 district record and clinches its first berth since 2019.
Euless Trinity d. Bell, 25-18, 27-25, 25-17
The Trojans defeated their rivals in District 3-6A to secure the No. 3 seed and a playoff date with Byron Nelson.
Bell ends with a 6-8 district record and was looking to force a tie for the final playoff spot with Chisholm Trail. With the loss, CT grabs the No. 4 seed and will start with 4-6A champ Keller.
Weatherford d. Paschal, 25-12, 25-14, 25-11
The Kangaroos swept the Panthers in the District 3-6A finale to clinch a co-district title with Boswell. Both teams went 13-1 in district with the season series split.
Both teams won 3-1 on the road.
Weatherford won the flip and will enter No. 1 and play Carroll in the bi-district round. Boswell is No. 2 and gets Eaton.
Riess Griffith and Kate Hansen each had eight kills for the Roos. They combined for 18 digs while Veronica Cruz led with 13 digs. Roisin Owen and Maddy Ballard had 13 and eight assists, respectively.
Birdville d. Lake Dallas, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17
Caroline Kahle had a game-high 14 kills as the Hawks swept the Falcons to force a three-way tie for second in District 7-5A. Along with Argyle’s 3-0 win over Denton and Grapevine’s 3-2 loss to Richland, the three teams are locked in a tie for the final three playoff seeds in district.
Whoever comes out in fourth, will start with 8-5A champ Midlothian. Third will play Mansfield Timberview while second will await the Heritage-Burleson tiebreaker.
Kennedy Hulse had 10 kills for Birdville while Lyric Steward added seven. Freshman Abbi Parr had five aces and 29 assists. Kahle chipped in 18 digs.
