Midlothian assistant football coach Clif White died on Saturday night just hours after celebrating his 37th birthday. He had battled with Stage 4 urachal cancer since his diagnosis in May.

The cancer is so rare that less than one in a million have a chance at getting it.

“Midlothian ISD is greatly saddened by the passing of Coach Clif White after his ongoing battle with cancer. It has been amazing how students, staff and the community all rallied behind Coach White and his family. He was a beloved member of our MISD family and will be greatly missed,” the school district said in a statement via e-mail.

White spent the past 10 years with Midlothian where he coached the freshman football team and assisted for both the varsity football team and varsity softball team.

The football team is 7-0 for the first time since 1984.

They will host Lake Belton at MISD Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday.

“Coach White is a kid magnet,” head football coach Doug Wendel said during summer workouts in July. “He’s what’s best about Midlothian High School. He is about as loyal as they come. He loves the school and the kids, and gives back.”

White was known as a vibrant and caring person, who had a passion for sports.

He dominated every sport he played at Venus High School in the early 2000s. He shares the state record for the longest touchdown pass of 99 yards in a game against Alvarado in 2002.

A Go Fund Me was created following his diagnosis with over 400 donations and $42,000 raised.

“Everyone has amazed me with how much love and support they have shown,” White said in July. “It is incredible to see everyone step up in prayer, help take care of our kids, help with taking care of our house, contribute financially, making some awesome shirts and putting on fundraisers.

“I’m blown away by everyone’s love. I am eternally grateful. I am so blessed with an army of friends and family.”

White had gone through three rounds of chemotherapy.

Friends and family helped celebrate his birthday on Saturday. Following his passing, people gathered at the school’s arena on Sunday to honor and remember White.

The softball team hosted a home run derby on Wednesday to help raise money.

There is a football raffle set up on Facebook to help send Meagan and the White’s two children to Disney. One raffle is $10 and three raffles are for $25. The winner will receive two tickets to the Cowboys-Giants game on Thanksgiving (Section 303, Seats 13, 14, parking pass). A winner will be drawn on Nov. 4.

White’s wife, Meagan, received a standing ovation on Sunday and even shared a few words.

“I will never in my lifetime be able to thank all of you the way you deserve. For loving my husband, for loving me, for loving our children,” she said in a video posted on Facebook. “You people set the example for the whole world, on how to take care of your own.”

Friends, family, students and the rest of Texas took to social media to share their condolences.
