Fort Worth Dunbar rolls past Fort Worth Carter-Riverside to stay unbeaten in district
Fort Worth Dunbar came into Friday night’s game at Clark Stadium looking to remain undefeated in district play while Fort Worth Carter Riverside was looking for their first district win.
“We are going to win, we need it, we need it to keep reaching everyone else in the district, you have got to keep that undefeated,” Dunbar head coach Todd Lawson said before the game.
Dunbar (3-3 overall, 3-0 in District 6-4A D1) kept its undefeated streak in district play with a 44-14 victory over Carter-Riverside (3-3, 0-3).
But it was Carter Riverside that made the first score when Jammer Muhammad carried the ball into the end zone scoring a touchdown midway through the first quarter. Two minutes later, Dunbar’s Ja’Marrion Garret ran for a touchdown and it was tied at 6 going into the second.
Muhammad took a hand off and scored his second touchdown of the night to up the Eagles lead to 13-7 with 7:18 left in the second quarter.
Dunbar answered back when Murry Moore ran 55 yards to return a touchdown for the Wildcats. Dunbar led 14-13. The Wildcats gained another touchdown by Tajahn Odom, making the game 21-14. Jorge Patlin scored a field goal with three seconds left on the 20-yard line, ending the second quarter with a score of 24-14 in favor of Dunbar.
In the third quarter, with 9:07 left, a fumble was made by Moore; however, it was recovered by his teammate Odom, who scored the only touchdown for the quarter and Dunbar led 31-14.
The fourth quarter saw two more scores by Dunbar. The first was a touchdown made by Moore. The final touchdown securing Dunbar’s victory was made by Garret with 1:01 left to play.
“I think that we’re a program that’s growing, knowing where we were just a few short years ago with a winless team, to playing a playoff team like Dunbar…I’m really proud of our kids and how they played,” Carter Riverside head coach Phillip Murray said.
