Carroll, Byron Nelson rout district foes and more from Week 5 in the Fort Worth-area
Week 5
Carroll 62, Haltom 0
It was another dominating district performance for Carroll as it had little resistance in a 62-0 win over Haltom on Thursday night.
Wyoming committed quarterback Kaden Anderson completed 13 of his 16 passes for 238 yards and two scores to lead the Dragons’ (5-0, 2-0 District 4-6A) offense, which tallied 602 total yards.
Carroll, No. 3 in the Class 6A state rankings, scored on each of its first nine possessions against Haltom (0-5, 0-2) before punting on its 10th and killing the clock on its last.
On defense, Carroll was a force, holding the Buffalos to 160 total yards.
Star running back Owen Allen finished with 108 yards rushing and surpassed 6,000 for his career.
Byron Nelson 69, Timber Creek 2
While much of the attention given to Byron Nelson this season has been focused on QB Jake Wilson, it was the Aaron Darden show on Thursday night as he rushed for 228 yards and four touchdowns in a 69-2 win over Timber Creek.
Darden led a Byron Nelson (5-0, 2-0 District 4-6A) offense that went over 600 in total yards again this season with 366 of it coming on the ground. Wilson was sharp, too, going 21 of 28 for 251 yards and three touchdowns.
Nelson left little doubt as to how this game would shape out, scoring 35 points in the first quarter thanks to two rushing scores by Darden and Wilson each.
The Bobcats’ defense was superb again, limiting the Falcons (1-4, 0-2) to just 93 total yards for the game. The rushing defense held Timber Creek to 1.79 yards a carry on 33 attempts.
The 67-point margin is the most for Byron in program history. They’re 5-0 for the first time.
Fossil Ridge 46, Eaton 28
After Eaton took an early 7-0 lead, thanks to taking the opening drive down the field and chewing up four minutes on the clock, it was all Fossil Ridge the rest of the way in a 46-28 win on Friday night.
BYU committed 3-star running back Landen Chambers scored twice in the first quarter to flip the Panthers’ 7-point deficit into a 6-point lead.
Eaton (1-4, 0-2 in District 4-6A) reclaimed the lead at 14-13 early in the second quarter, but Fossil Ridge (3-2, 1-1) answered with 12 points to close out the half up 25-14.
Eaton once again brought the game back to one possession with 16-yard Noah Lugo run to make it 25-22, but the Panthers put up 14 straight points to go up 39-22 midway through the fourth quarter.
The game wasn’t sealed until Reece Watkins intercepted an Eaton pass, which set up Chambers’ third rushing score of the night to make it 46-22.
Chambers finished the game with 30 carries for 131 yards while Logan Cundiff added 82 yards on eight carries and a rushing touchdown and was 10-of-13 passing for 165 yards and two more scores.
Mansfield 49, Lake Ridge 34
Using more of his legs than his arms, Sergio Kennedy ran for 205 yards and two scores to lead Mansfield to a 49-34 win over crosstown rival Lake Ridge.
Though it was Kennedy’s arm in the first quarter that got Mansfield off to a fast start as he connected with Jacobe Hayes for a 59-yard score to give the Tigers (5-0, 2-0 District 11-6A) their first lead of the game.
The teams traded touchdown scores until the early second quarter when Kennedy got the first of his two touchdowns on the ground. At 14-14, Kennedy sprang loose for a 33-yard gain to put Mansfield up for good at 21-14.
After trading two punts each, Kennedy found another hole and broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run to give Mansfield the two-score lead it would hold onto the rest of the night.
Kennen Miller led the Eagles (1-4, 0-2) with 226 yards passing and two scores. He also added 48 yards on the ground. Raycine Guillory also had a big night for Lake Ridge with 21 carries for 198 yards.
Mansfield is 5-0 for the first time since 2011.
Decatur 59, Alvarado 29
Decatur trailed Alvarado 14-3 after the first quarter thanks to some sluggish play. However, the Eagles (2-3) were able to outscore the Indians (3-2) 56-15 over the final three quarters to come away with the 59-29 homecoming win on Friday night.
