Fort Worth Dunbar rolls past Diamond Hill-Jarvis for first win of the season
With both teams searching for their first win of the season, it was Fort Worth Dunbar that came out on top, 60-0, over Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis in a District 6-4A Division 1 opener Friday night at Farrington Field.
The Dunbar Wildcats (1-3, 1-0) scored their first touchdown with at 3:48 left in the first quarter when Ja’Marion Garrett ran it in for a six. The next touchdown was made by running back Murry Moore by a hand off run with 57 seconds left in the first quarter. This brought the score to 14-0.
With 10:53 left in the second quarter, Jordan Webster scored for Dunbar which brought the score 21-0. Moore kept the points coming when he ran for three touchdowns in the second quarter. The first one was at the 9:45 mark, giving the Wildcats the 28-0 advantage. Keshawn Mills scored a safety for the Wildcats with 8:39 left in the second quarter, making the score 30-0.
Moore made a 35-yard run with 8:20 left in the second quarter that ended in a Wildcats’ touchdown which brought the score to 37-0. Moore just kept making the big plays when he scored his fourth touchdown of the night with a 45-yard run just before halftime, giving the Wildcats 44-0 lead. Moore was the standout player of the game.
“He had over 200 yards,” Dunbar head coach Todd Lawson said. “He was able to get close to what he has been averaging. He is one of the top running backs in the state now as far as yardage.”
The final score of the half came when Mills capitalized on a Diamond Hill-Jarvis (0-4, 0-1) fumble and ran it in for a touchdown with 28 seconds to play. The score going into intermission was 51-0.
The third and fourth quarters were all about kicker Jorge Patlan when he scored three field goals for the Wildcats. He scored the only points during the second half of the game and brought the score to 60-0.
