It was rivalry week for the Fort Worth Dunbar Wildcats (0-3) and the O.D. Wyatt Chaparrals.

It was Wyatt that came out on top, 16-13, on Friday night at Clark Stadium. The Chaparrals are 3-0 for the first time since 2017 when they won their first four games and went 6-4.

“Anytime we have a victory against Dunbar, it is a great victory,” Wyatt head coach Zach Criss said. “They have been a long-time rival of ours.”

The first quarter ended scoreless, but the Chaparrals were the first to score with an option play in the second quarter when quarterback Kaid Barrett kept the ball and ran it in from the 20-yard line putting the score at 7-0 with 8:27 left in the first half.

The Wildcats struck back on their next drive starting with a lob pass to Murray Moore for 60 yards. The Wildcats later scored a touchdown when Moore recovered a fumble at the Chaparrals’ 10 and ran it in with 6:14 left in the first half. At intermission the score was tied 7-7.

The first score of the second half was a touchdown made by Keylon King putting Dunbar up 13-7 after the extra point attempt was missed at the 3:37 mark.

Starting the fourth quarter with Wyatt down, the Chaparrals bounced back with a pass play to D’artagnan Crawford that gave them the lead, making the score 14-13 with 12:53 left.

With the Wildcats in their own red zone, they attempted a pass play, but Kelton Thompson got through the offensive line and caused a safety bringing Wyatt’s lead to 16-13 with 8:27 left in the fourth.

“We don’t look at it as undefeated,” Criss said. “We look at it as 0-0 and move on to the next game.”

Wyatt’s next game will be when it faces Southwest at Clark Stadium on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.

Dunbar’s next game will be against Diamond Hill-Jarvis at Farrington Field on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
