Fort Worth Western Hills handles Polytechnic from start to finish in shutout victory
The Fort Worth Polytechnic Parrots entered their final non-district game of the season looking for their first win as they took on the Fort Worth Western Hills Cougars on Friday night at Historic Farrington Field.
But it wasn’t in the cards for the Parrots, as Western Hills dominated to a 39-0 shutout win.
“We’re just going to keep playing, we had some adversity in the first quarter last week, so we had to come away from that,” Western Hills head coach Blake Moilan said. “We put ourselves in a position to win last week, we just didn’t…We’re ready to play.”
Western Hills (2-1) took those words to heart and started out strong as a precise onside kick from Emmanuel Nshimiyimana gave them its first possession of the night.
Just two minutes into its opening drive, when faced with a fourth down from the 18-yard line, Nshimiyimana sent a kick that flew 35 yards and split the uprights to give Western Hills a 3-0 lead with 10:18 left in the first quarter.
The second quarter started out with Cougars’ running back, Tyreke Lewis, driving through Parrot linebackers and carrying two along with him into the end zone and after an unsuccessful two-point conversion, the score sat at 9-0 with Western Hills in front.
Keyon Butler, the Cougars quarterback, kept the ball on the ground with a designed quarterback draw as he weaved through the Parrots secondary for a 60-yard touchdown to push the lead out to 25-0. Lewis ran a 6-yard touchdown in the middle of the third quarter, raising the score to 31-0.
The Parrots (0-3) showed that they would not go down without a fight as their defense relentlessly put pressure on the quarterback, but Butler was ready to face all adversity as he handed the ball off to David Washington who broke through the defense to score the final touchdown of the night.
Western Hills last started 2-1 in 2019, however, the Cougars would lose their final seven games.
