The Fort Worth Carter-Riverside Eagles got their second straight blowout victory, this time against the Dallas A-Plus Academy Knights, 39-0, Thursday night at Scarborough-Handley Field.

Carter-Riverside improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2015.

A-Plus Academy (0-2) struggled in the loss.

The weather had a clear effect on both teams’ playbooks, as only nine total pass attempts were made with only three completions. In the hours leading up to the game, it poured and both sides knew the ball would be slippery. But, Carter-Riverside head coach Phillip Murray said he was quite prepared for it.

“We’ve been practicing the last two weeks in the rain, so the water to us is nothing new,” Murray said.

The first drive of the game started with Carter-Riverside keeping the ball on the ground with five straight carries, followed by a 47-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Jayden Thomas with 8:14 remaining in the first quarter for a quick lead that the team would never lose.

The second quarter started off with a 40-yard pass from Thomas to star running back Jameer Muhammad extending the Eagles lead to 20-0 just six seconds into the quarter.

The Eagles’ defense remained relentless and denied the Knights to even cross midfield until freshman quarterback, Trealyn Reed, connected with James Gonzales on a 6-yard pass with 8:03 in the third.

Four plays following that pass, the Knights would fumble away the slippery football that Muhammad would come away with.

Carter-Riverside’s defense would hold A-Plus Academy to under 75 total yards with an interception, while the Eagles offense would combine for 275 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the night. Muhammad would contribute to three of those touchdowns himself, putting up 202 total rushing yards.

A-Plus Academy will head back home to play Maypearl on Friday Sept. 9, looking for its first win of the season. Carter-Riverside looks to defend its undefeated season against Adamson back at Handley on Friday, Sept. 9.
