Game of the night

Boswell d. Grapevine, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 15-12

Seniors Madi Parrish (No. 19 in the Star-Telegram Top 25) and Stephanie Gutierrez (No. 18) accounted for 30 of Boswell’s 48 kills in the Pioneers five-set win over the Mustangs in Grapevine on Tuesday night.

Presleigh Roest and Camille Middleton added eight and seven kills, respectively.

Grapevine, which has gone to the state tournament in back-to-back seasons, came out strong and picked up a 1-0 lead over Boswell, No. 3 in the 6A area rankings.

But Boswell (21-11) had an answer, first in the second set and then again in the fourth to tie the match. A key factor in the win came behind the service line where Boswell had 11 aces.

Parrish and Brianna Russell each had three. Both put in a double-double with Parrish logging in 22 digs. Russell added 24 assists and 15 digs, and Maddie Konen chipped in 15 assists.

Gosset’s Game

Arlington Martin d. Keller Fossil Ridge, 25-16, 12-25, 25-14, 25-12

After a rough second set, the Martin Warriors bounced back to bea the Panthers in four set at home on Tuesday night. Peyton Dunn and Sophia Salas combined for 32 of the team’s 34 assists on the night. Kensie Mundell had a team-high 12 digs.

Natalia Newsome had a team-high 10 kills

After Ridge dominated the second set, Martin (14-7), No. 7 in the 6A area rankings, led the third after a kill from senior Rhian Carter. Carter added another big kill and Newsome hit one down the middle to force Ridge to a timeout at 20-11 in the third set.

Martin took the third set easily to regain a 2-1 lead in the match. Mundell chased a ball down and Carter finished it through the block as Martin lead 5-3 early in the fourth. The Martin lead grew to 16-9 in the fourth on a Carter kill. Carter had seven kills, and Ridge could never cut the deficit close enough.

Eye of the Tiger

Mansfield d. Springtown, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14, 25-18

Mia Clay put in a team-high 15 kills and Lauren Demuth hit 0.444 as the Tigers defeated the Porcupines in Mansfield.

Demuth had 10 kills and freshman Kylie Meche added 11.

Four Tigers had 10 digs, led by Nicole Ngo’s 30 followed by 19 apiece by Clay and Lauren Krombach, and Bentley Hite’s 12. Rachel Resta led the offense with 40 assists.

Mansfield is ranked No. 4 in the 6A area rankings.

Meanwhile Springtown, No. 9 in the lower class rankings, had some big games from Kylie Druxman and Briinklee Dauenhauer. Druxman had 39 assists and 19 digs while Dauenhauer had 19 kills and 30 digs.

Sterlyn Smith chipped in 30 more digs.

Charger Pride

Keller Central d. Richland, 25-20, 17-25, 27-25, 25-16.

Dallas Baptist commit Karly Wells (No. 15 in the S-T Top 25) registered 21 kills on 0.459 hitting as the Chargers defeated the Royals in a battle of two Top 10 area ranked teams on Tuesday night.

Wells added 22 assists, an ace, two digs and four blocks.

Kira Smith had a team-high five blocks, Jaylani Evans and Faith Macharia had 13 and 12 kills, respectively, and Evans and Ella Campbell chipped in 16 and 14 digs.

Allison Montoya had a team-high 28 assists.

Birdville is No. 6 in the 5A rankings. Central is No. 8 in 6A.

Fly Eagles Fly

Argyle d. Royse City, 26-24, 28-26, 25-23

The Argyle Eagles swept the Royse City Bulldogs, but it was a tightly-contested match up on Tuesday night.

Argyle, No. 5 in the 5A area rankings, picks up its 20th win of the season thanks to Jordyn Moore’s 18 assists, 10 digs and five kills. Allison Hesselgesser, Camryn Heiser and Katherine Holtman combined for 24 kills. Sydney Payne had 18 assists and six digs, Piper Mickenheim added 22 digs, and Shaye Feely chipped in five kills and 15 digs.
