Softball/Baseball Recap (5/19): Grandview survives; Aledo, Lake Ridge blow out Game 1

Softball

Grandview 3, Mt. Vernon 2

Laney Bella and Faith Goodgion had back-to-back RBIs in the top of the seventh as the Zebras avoided the sweep and forced a Game 3 in their Class 3A Region 2 semifinal series on Thursday.

The decisive game will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at Rockwall Heath HS.

Caydin Blackmon had a one-out single and Grandview was down to its final out of the season. Blackmon advanced to second and Bell hit a 1-2 pitch to left that plated the tying run.

Then Goodgion hit a 1-2 pitch to right for an RBI triple that scored Bell from first base.

Blackmon issued a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, but got a pop fly in foul territory and then struck out the final batter. Blackmon allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out seven.

Mt. Vernon won 2-0 during Thursday’s Game 1.

Aledo 14, Abilene Wylie 2 (5)

Madysen Boutwell and Ana Flores homered as the Ladycats defeated Wylie in Game 1 of their 5A Region 2 semifinal series on Thursday. Game 2 is 2 p.m. Friday at Tarleton State.

Boutwell, Marissa Powell and Maddy Jarvis each drove in three runs.

Aledo scored seven times in the bottom of the second and five in the fourth.

Texas Ray had two RBI and Aledo recorded 14 hits as a team. Flores, Reagan Davis and Macy Graf also drove in a run. Kayleigh Smith got the win from the circle after allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two.

Lake Ridge 11, Cypress Ranch 0 (6)

Avery Hoang threw a four-hitter and struck out eight as the Eagles won Game 1 of their 6A Region 2 semifinal series on Thursday. Game 2 is 6:30 p.m. at Belton HS.

Tia Warsop went 4 for 4 with a triple, two RBI, three runs and three stolen bases.

Kassidy Chance and Brooklyn Morris each drove in three runs for Lake Ridge.

Raigan Brannon and Maggie Miller also had one RBI apiece for the Eagles, who scored three in the fifth and five in the sixth to end the game via run-rule.

Marcus 6, Timber Creek 1

Saniya Hill tripled and drove in one run, but the Falcons fell to the Marauders in Game 1 of their 6A Region 1 semifinal series on Thursday. Game 2 is Friday 7 p.m. at Southlake Carroll.

Marcus starting pitcher Faith Drissel allowed one run on four hits and struck out 10 batters.

Avery Rich homered for the Marauders and Haidyn Sokoloski had a triple and one RBI. Marcus scored twice in the sixth to pull away.

Timber Creek pitcher Nicole Stuhr allowed four earned runs on six hits.

Baseball

Legacy 7, Birdville 5

The Broncos scored four in the first inning and three in the second to hang on against the Hawks in Game 1 of their 5A Region 1 quarterfinal series on Thurday.

Game 2 is Friday 7 p.m. at Weatherford College.

Given King, Cade Sanberg and Blake Julius had two RBI each for Legacy.

Lake Country 7, Lubbock Trinity 3

Cason Davenport allowed one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts in six innings as the Eagles won a TAPPS D3 state semifinal on Thursday at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington.

The Eagles will play in the championship game at noon Saturday.

After Trinity scored in the top of the first inning, Lake Country took a 3-1 lead a half inning later. Trinity scored two in the fourth to tie the game 3-3 until Lake Country scored three in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth.

TJ Mynyk went 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Landon Fuller and Adam Lindsey each had one RBI.

Jackson Nelson went 3 for 4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Aledo 3, Burleson Centennial 0 (Suspended)

David Jones drove in a run and the Bearcats led 3-0 in the top of the fourth over the Sparants in Game 1 of their 5A Region 1 quarterfinal series at Boswell.

But the lights in left field had trouble turning on and the Boswell crew couldn’t get it fixed.

After about an hour delay, the game was suspended. The game will resume on Friday 5:30 p.m. at Godley.

Game 2 will follow the first game 30 minutes after.
