Playoff Softball Recap (4/28): Timber Creek beats Paschal, Boswell rallies, Northwest sweeps and more
Timber Creek 10, Paschal 3
Timber Creek pitcher Nicole Stuhr went over 200 strikeouts this season in the Falcons’ win over the Panthers in Game 1 of their 6A Region 1 bi-district series on Thursday at Eaton HS.
Game 2 is Friday 7 p.m. back at Eaton.
After allowing three hits and three runs in the first two innings, Stuhr gave up just two hits and no runs in the final five frames. She got a pop fly with the bases loaded in the seventh to end the game.
Stuhr finished with 10 strikeouts. She has 202 on the season and is the third Fort Worth area player with 200 strikeouts.
Timber Creek led off the game with the first two runners on. After they advanced on a Kyndel McDaniel grounder, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead on an RBI sac fly from Saniya Hill.
Paschal quickly tied it in the bottom half when Sam Garcia ripped a two-out RBI triple to deep center.
The Falcons added three runs in the second. Ayssa Dawson hit a short chopper and beat out the throw while scoring a run and Keagyn Ure doubled to center to make it 3-1. Maddisan Noriega then hit a high fly that found the open turf in shallow center to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Panthers pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the second with a Maddie Howard two-run homer to left field.
McDaniel hit a two-run single to right in the fourth to give Timber Creek a 7-3 lead. Hill hit a two-run triple in the sixth
Boswell 6, Carroll 3
The Pioneers rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and scored five in the fifth to beat the Dragons in Game 1 of their 6A Region 1 bi-district series at Carroll. Game 2 is Friday at Boswell.
Carroll took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Scarlett Kuhn. Cameron Timmons held Boswell to just three hits through the first four innings.
Boswell (27-3), the area’s top 6A team, got a two-run single from Malia Jones and a two-run double from Santrea Armstead in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.
Lillian Cooper’s RBI grounder cut the lead to 5-3 for Carroll. Jones added her third RBI in the seventh to give Boswell a 6-3 edge.
Boswell ace Alli Stidham struck out 11 batters to extend her area lead to 263 strikeouts this season. The win was her 21st of the season, tying Alvarado’s Jacey Power for most in the area.
Keller 6, Bell 0
Meredith Henderson threw a one-hitter and struck out seven in the Indians’ win over the Blue Raiders in Game 1 of their 6A Region 1 bi-district series at Bell.
Game 2 is Friday at Keller.
The Indians, who have won 14 of the past 16 games, got three RBI from Marissa Espinoza. Kaiya Fabela went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI. Ashley Breeding had a double, triple and scored three times, and finished 3 for 4. Jorey Hood went 2 for 4.
Weatherford 7, Byron Nelson 0
Lauren Belles allowed three hits and struck out nine in the Kangaroos’ win over the Bobcats in Game 1 of their 6A Region 1 bi-district series at Weatherford. Game 2 is Friday at Byron.
Kayleigh Cassels led the Roos’ bats by going 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kaylee Embrey went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBI and runs scored. Sarah Crews went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Landry Fonseca and Hanna Bartels each had one RBI.
Aledo 13, Ryan 3 (6)
The Ladycats (24-2), the area’s top 5A team, scored three times in the first inning to beat the Raiders in Game 1 of their 5A Region 1 bi district series at Aledo. Game 2 is Friday at Ryan.
Marissa Powell and Texas Ray had back to back RBIs in the first inning. Aledo added six runs in the sixth. Ana Flores hit an RBI single and Reagan Davis followed with a two-run double.
Macy Graf capped the frame with a two-run double. Maddy Jarvis’ RBI single in the sixth ended the game.
Northwest 13, Azle 3 (6)
Sadie Reid hit three triples and went 4 for 4 as the Texans finished off the Hornets during their 5A Region 1 bi district sweep. Northwest will play the Saginaw-Crowley winner in the area round.
Abi Young struck out five batters in six innings. Reid drove in two runs and Alexah Reyes went 4 for 5 with a home run, four RBI and two stolen bases. Courtney Candahl also homered and Josie Copeland added two RBI.
Burleson 7, North Side 2
Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, the Elks scored five times in the fifth to beat the Steers in Game 1 of their 5A Region 1 bi district series at Burleson. Game 2 is Friday at North Side.
The Steers scored both runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Abigail Padilla scored and Adrianna Casso drove in Amira Segovia.
Burleson pitcher Taylor Crumby went the distance and struck out 10 batters. Macy Browder led the bats with a homer and two RBI. Emily Jacobs drove in a run and Olivia Marks went 2 for 3. Madalyn Shaw went 2 for 4.
Centennial 10, Heights 0 (6)
Bailey Lindemuth added on to her historic season with her 19th home run and 70th RBI as the Spartans beat the Yellowjackets in their one-game 5A Region 1 bi district series.
Centennial will play the Brewer-Richland winner in the area round.
Lindemuth leads the Fort Worth-area in homers and leads the entire metroplex in RBIs. From the circle, she struck out 11 and didn’t allow a ht in five innings.
Halie DeLaRosa went 1 for 2 with three runs. Kendall Miller, Lacie Mendez, Kylie Barnes and Kelly Schweitzer all had one RBI for the Spartans. Jalynn Vasquez went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI.
Richland 4, Brewer 3
The Royals scored three in the first inning and then hung on the seventh to beat the Bears in Game 1 of their 5A Region 1 bi district series. Game 2 is Friday at Brewer.
Jacey Lees picked up her 20th win of the season (tied for second in the area) and struck out 11.
Madi McKay went 4 for 4 to lead Richland. Lees, Landri McKittrick and Reese Davis had one RBI . Davis went 2 for 2.
Kelsey Valo (RBI) and Hannah Caldwell (two RBI) led Brewer, which scored two runs in the top of the seventh to pull within 4-3. Caldwell hit a two-run homer. The Bears had the game tying run at first before Davis got the force at second to end the game.
Grandview 10, Valley View 0 (5)
Caydin Blackmon threw a one-hitter in Game 1 of the Zebras 3A Region 2 bi district series at Irving HS.
Game 2 is Friday back at Irving.
Blackmon struck out six and picked up her 20th win (tied second most in the area).
Morgan Holliday blasted two homers and drove in eight runs. One home run was a grand slam and she went 4 for 4.
Olivia Bauerschlag, KK Moore and Faith Goodgion all had two hits and an RBI for Grandview.
Joshua 9, Crandall 2
Zaidyn Streeter hit a first-inning grand slam and Rylie Rumfield added a two-run triple as the Owls won Game 1 of their 5A Region 2 bi district series.
Game 2 is Friday at Crandall.
Catie Amador also drove in a run as Joshua scored seven times in the first inning. Amador got the win from the circle allowing four hits and striking out eight. She is second in the area with 237 strikeouts this season.
