Baseball/Softball Recap (4/26): Lake Ridge tops Midway, Kennedale wins playoff opener

Mansfield Lake Ridge 9, Waco Midway 2
Texas commit Matt Millett allowed three hits and struck out five in six innings of work, and drove in two runs at the plate as the Eagles secure a piece of the District 11-6A championship over the Panthers on Tuesday night.
Lake Ridge (11-2) goes for the outright title and No. 1 playoff seed at Midway (10-3) on Friday.
Ryan Black opened the bottom of the first with a double to left field and scored one batter later on a Matt Tellez double. Tellez scored on a wild pitch and Millett’s RBI single to center gave Lake Ridge a 3-0 lead.
Midway got a solo homer in the second, but Torin Smith drove in a run with a grounder to second to keep Lake Ridge on top 4-1.
Back to back RBI singles from Millett and Kailen Fedon pushed the Lake Ridge to 6-1 in the third and the lead went to 9-2 in the sixth on a Carter Olson single to left and a Midway passed ball that scored Karson Davis.
Tellez led off the fifth with a homer to left field.
Birdville 3, Colleyville Heritage 2
Trailing 2-0 after six innings, the Hakws scored three times in the top of the seventh to beat the Panthers in District 6-5A.
The win secured a piece of the district title for Birdville, which will go for the outright No. 1 seed on Friday against Colleyville at home.
Will Bush opened the seventh with a lead off single. Bynum Martinez drove in a run with a double to left. Niko Ioannou singled on a 0-2 pitch and two batters later Mason Siegmund tied the game with a ground out to third.
Alex Showalter followed it up with the go-ahead RBI double to left.
Oklahoma commit Parker Hutyra retired the side in the bottom of the seventh and started the inning with back to back strikeouts. He finished with four hits allowed and 14 strikeouts in seven innings.
Birdville (10-3) is a game up on Richland (9-4). Richland plays Lake Dallas on Friday. Richland also swept the season series against Birdville.
Arlington 8, Arlington Bowie 0
Dylan Buechele threw a complete game shutout as the Colts are one step closer to the No. 3 seed from District 8-6A.
Arlington (7-4) is a game up on Lamar (6-5). Arlington plays Bowie on Friday while Lamar, which lost to district leading South Grand Prairie plays SGP again on Friday.
The Colts can still clinch No. 2, but Martin (8-3) would have to lose to Sam Houston on Friday. Martin beat Sam 19-0 on Tuesday.
SGP, Martin, Arlington and Lamar have all secure playoff spots.
Buechele struck out 10 batters.
Timber Creek 4, Eaton 1
The Falcons kept their playoff hopes alive in District 4-6A with a win over the Eagles. Timber Creek (5-6) plays Eaton (6-5) on Friday. A win by Timber Creek will clinch the fourth seed. Eaton can clinch a spot with a win.
Softball
Kennedale 6, Sanger 1
The Ladykats scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away from the Indians in Game 1 of their Class 4A Region 2 bi-district series on Tuesday night at Kennedale.
Game 2 is set for 6:30 Thursday at Sanger.
Shalie Wooden hit a solo homer in the first to give Kennedale a 1-0 lead. She also pitched for the Kats and finished with one unearned run and eight strikeouts.
Wooden went 2-3 with two RBI at the plate.
Kennedale scored five times in the fifth, but on just one hit ... a Cadence Verona single. The Ladykats also drew four walks and a hit by pitch in the frame.
Aubrey 12, Midlothian Heritage 5
Heritage pulled within 6-5 in the fifth inning, but Aubrey answered with four in the top of the sixth to pull away in Game 1 of their Class 4A Region 2 bi-district game in Carrollton.
Game 2 is set for 6:30 Friday at Kelly Field in Carrollton.
Keeli Fuller went 3-5 for Aubrey while Kate Fellers and Jaden Wheeler combined for five hits and six RBI. Lauren Trott and Abby Hammett both drove in a pair of runs.
Trott allowed four hits and struck out five for the Chaparrals.
Zoie Zachry had an RBI and Lacey Harrison went 2-3 with two RBI for the Jaguars.
Aledo 6, Prosper 3 (Saturday)
The Ladycats got two homers and four RBI from Marissa Powell during a playoff warm up against the Eagles on Saturday.
Both teams enter the playoffs as district champs and No. 1 seeds.
Aledo, No. 1 in the Fort Worth-area 5A rankings, open with Denton Ryan. Prosper, No. 1 in the Dallas-area 6A rankings, open with Flower Mound Marcus.
North Texas bound pitcher Kayleigh Smith allowed six hits and struck out five in 5 1/3 innings for Aledo.
Sydney Lewis (Maryland signee) led Prosper with a pair of home runs.
Byron Nelson 10, Southlake Carroll 0 (Saturday)
Carlie Baker was near perfect in the Bobcats win over the Dragons in a District 4-6A seeding game on Saturday at LD Bell.
Baker allowed two base runners and one hit, which came with two outs in the fifth inning as Byron won in five to clinch the third seed. The Bobcats will open with Weatherford.
Carroll will start the playoffs against Boswell.
Byron scored five runs in the second and fifth innings. Lauren Wachowiak went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Reese Ladewig had a bases-clearing triple in the fifth.
