High school baseball recap (4/5): Late home run sends Burleson past Centennial
Burleson 2, Burleson Centennial 1
Kyndall Cassidy nearly got the complete game win, striking out six batters in 6 2/3 innings to send the Elks to a District 8-5A win on Tuesday night. Cassidy allowed four hits, but reached the pitch limit with 111 pitches.
Garrett McCoy allowed six hits and struck out eight for Centennial in the losing effort. Aiden Hatton drove in a run in the top of the second inning to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
But the lead didn’t last long as the Elks scored in the bottom of the inning. Drue Saenz hit a lead off triple and two batters later scored on Cayden Byrd’s RBI double.
Saenz gave Burleson a 2-1 lead with a solo homer in the sixth.
Mansfield Lake Ridge 6, Mansfield 5
The Eagles erased a 4-0 lead with six runs in the final two innings to beat the Tigers in District 11-6A.
Ryan Black and Matt Tellez led off the top of the sixth with back-to-back singles. Black scored two batters later on an RBI single from Jason Davis. Lake Ridge added two more runs on a Mansfield error and the Eagles tied it on Matt Millett’s RBI double to center.
Lake Ridge took a 5-4 lead in the seventh on Tellez’s RBI double to left field and the Eagles got an insurance run with an RBI double from Carter Olson.
Weatherford 6, Boswell 1
Dayton Tockey allowed four hits and struck out seven as the Kangaroos beat the Pioneers in District 3-6A.
Colton Cauthen led Boswell with four hits allowed in five innings as both pitchers kept it scoreless until the sixth inning.
Tockey went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Trent Rogers and Omar Jaurez also drove in runs for the Roos.
Malachi Backholm’s RBI in the seventh put Boswell on the board. The Pioneers, however, committed three errors.
FW Arlington Heights 12, FW Wyatt 1
Jacob Hogan, Javier Alvarez and Jacob Lax all drove in a pair of runs as the Yellow Jackets beat the Chaparrals in District 7-5A.
Lax, Hogan, Cooper Gill and Cade Smith each had two hits and Aiden Orr had an RBI and scored three runs.
Marco Solis allowed one hit, one unearned run and struck out eight batters in four innings. Aaron Torres struck out two in an inning of relief.
Heights scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second and five runs in the fourth.
Keller 10, Keller Timber Creek 3
Fisher Polydoroff blasted a grand slam and drove in five runs as the Indians took down the Falcons in District 4-6A.
Zach Makarewich scored three runs. Brayden Simmons went 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs and Michael Dattalo also drove in two RBI.
Keever Vincent got the win allowing four hits and struck out six batters in six innings of work. Nick Robb struck out two in an inning of relief.
Timber Creek took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and Keller tied it a half inning later. The Indians pulled away with Polydoroff’s grand slam in the sixth inning.
LD Bell 12, North Crowley 5
Kaden Moeller drove in four runs to help the Blue Raiders beat the Panthers in District 3-6A.
Arya Manandhar and Riley Mella drove in two runs apiece.
Bell took a 3-0 lead after the second inning sparked by an error and passed ball from North Crowley.
But the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead. North Crowley got back-to-back-to-back RBI base hits from Anthony Saucedo, Braeden Baker and Jerry Tubbs.
The Blue Raiders scored three in the fifth and six in the sixth to pull away. Cameron Harvath’s RBI double tied the game at 4-4 and Moeller’s bases-clearing triple in the sixth extended Bell’s lead to 10-4.
Esteban Machuca picked up the win for Bell in relief, allowing no hits, one unearned run and striking out six batters in 3 1/3 innings of work.
