Recap: Lake Ridge downs Mansfield and more from this week in Fort Worth area softball
Mansfield Lake Ridge 11, Mansfield 5
Oklahoma State commit Tia Warsop went 2 for 3 with an RBI triple and four runs scored as the Eagles defeated the Tigers in a District 11-6A tilt on Friday night.
Warsop drew a lead-off walk in the bottom half of the first inning and was able to steal second. After advancing on a groundout, she scored on a Kassidy Chance hit that was just out of the reach for Mansfield’s Jadyn Ferguson behind second base.
The Tigers tied it a half inning later on a solo home run from Maddie Escalon to deep right field.
But Warsop sparked a four-running inning for the Eagles. Gabi Wilson drove in a run with a groundout to short and Warsop’s RBI triple made it 3-1. She scored on the throw for a 4-1 lead.
Chance got her second RBI to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.
Mansfield got one back on a passed ball to bring Addy Roper home. The Tigers pulled within 5-3 in the fourth inning on a solo homer from Alicia Heath. Heath also got an RBI triple in the sixth.
Chance drove in Warsop to up the Lake Ridge lead to 6-3. Paris Johnson also added a two-run single.
Lake Ridge pitcher Brooklyn Morris got the complete-game win with seven strikeouts.
Grandview 8, West 3
The Zebras, the No. 1 team in the area’s small school rankings, scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away from the Trojans at home on Friday.
Kylie Grafa went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBI for Grandview. Olivia Bauerschlag also homered and drove in three runs for the Zebras.
Caydin Blackmon went 3 for 3. Blackmon and Laney Bell drove in a run apiece.
Blackmon and Faith Goodgion combined to allow four hits from the circle, one earned run and five strikeouts.
West had a 3-2 lead in the third after its second homer of the night. Grandview tied it on Grafa’s first home run. Her second homer was a two-run blast that Grandview the lead for good. Bauerschlag belted a three-run bomb in the same inning.
Joshua 12, Corsicana 1
The Owls recorded 19 hits during their District 14-5A rout over Corsicana on Wednesday night. Zaiden Streeter, Catie Amador, Kaitlynn McBrayer and Kylie White all drove in two runs for Joshua.
Joshua had seven doubles led by two apiece from Streeter and Kyndal Lay. McBrayer, Lay and Rylie Rumfield all had three hits each.
Amador allowed two hits and one unearned run in six innings. She struck out 13 batters.
Joshua scored nine runs through the first four inninings with four coming in the top of the third.
Richland 10, Denton 0
Richland 22, Denton 1
The Royals scored four runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth, and Jacey Lees threw a no-hitter on Tuesday over the Broncos.
Lees struck out eight batters and allowed one walk in five innings of work. Reese Davis and Jocelyn Pinto combined for four hits, a double, triple and six RBI.
Landri McKittrick also drove in a run for Richland.
Richland followed it up with 17 hits on Wednesday, dispatching Denton in five innings. The Royals scored 14 times in the second. Lees and Alexis Cowan combined for two hits allowed and eight strikeouts.
Ten different players had hits led by Lees 4 for 4 with four RBI. Pinto went 2 for 2 with 5 RBI. Aliya Cruz went 2 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Davis drove in two.
Justin Northwest 10, Grapevine 0
Justin Northwest 9, Grapevine 2
Abi Young, last season’s all-area newcomer of the year struck out 34 batters during a pair of District 6-5A wins over the Mustangs.
Young threw a perfect game during Northwest’s 10-0 win on Monday night. She allowed three hits and struck out 19 on Wednesday.
Boswell 10, Haltom 0
Boswell 17, Chisholm Trail 0
The Pioneers, the new No. 1 team in the Class 6A area rankings, picked up two wins in District 3-6A over the Buffalos and Rangers.
Boswell recorded 13 hits and allowed one against Chisholm Trail on Monday. Danielle Bohanon had two hits with one home run and four RBI.
Santrea Armstead went 3 for 4 with four RBI. Eight different players drove in runs for Boswell. Alli Stidham drove in a pair and also got the win from the circle going three innings and striking out eight batters.
Stidham followed it up with a perfect game against Haltom on Tuesday. In five innings, Stidham faced 15 batters and struck out all 15. Stidham threw 49 of 63 pitches for strikes.
Stidham also went 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBI. A Stidham RBI single and Layla David RBI double gave Boswell a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. Stidham hit a two-out two-run double in the second.
Boswell extended the lead to 8-0 in the fourth on a two-run double from Malia Jones and RBI single by Armstead. The Pioneers ended the game in the fifth with a Kaylee Sallee RBI single and RBI triple from Harleigh Russell.
Midlothian 12, Corsicana 6
Midlothian 11, Waco University 6
Kylie Hoggatt and Rylan McFalls both drove in four runs as the Panthers picked up a District 14-5A win at home on Tuesday night. Hoggatt and McFalls both went 3 for 4 at the plate.
McFalls hit a two-run homer to pull Midlothian within 3-2 in the bottom of the first inning. The Panthers tacked on three runs in the second on two Corsicana errors and a Hoggatt RBI double.
Corsicana scored two in the third and one in the fourth to grab a 6-5 lead, but Midlothian scored the next seven runs. The first eight Midlothian batters reached base in the fourth and Hoggatt drove a pitch down the third-base line for a three-run double to give the Panthers a 9-6 lead. McFalls’ RBI single extended it to 10-6. McFalls added an RBI double in the sixth.
Carsen Kitchens went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Midlothian.
McFalls hit another homer on Friday as the Panthers beat the Trojans on the road. Kitchens went 3 for 5 with an RBI. McFalls drove in two. Sheyenne Shirley also drove in two runs for the Panthers and Ana Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Keller 13, Eaton 1
Keller 6, Timber Creek 5
Ashley Breeding belted two home runs, including a grand slam and Keller scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to down the No. 1 Eagles on Monday.
Breeding drove in six runs for the Indians.
With Keller leading 3-1 after six, the Indians opened the top of the seventh with its first six batters reaching base. Kaiya Fabela’s RBI single made it 5-1 and the Indians got back to back bases loaded walks.
Breeding hit a grand slam and Fabela added a solo homer to up the lead to 13-1.
Breeding had the go-ahead two-run single in the fifth and Keller hung on in the seventh to beat Timber Creek on Wednesday.
Timber Creek scored two runs on a pair of Keller errors in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-5. The Falcons had the game-tying run on third base before Keller pitcher Meredith Henderson got the final pop fly to center.
Henderson pitched seven innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs, and struck out six.
Jorey Hood and Marissa Espinoza gave Keller a 2-0 lead in the third on RBI singles. Half an inning later, Timber Creek tied it on an RBI single from Saniya Hill and sac fly from Izzy Bojkovic.
