Softball recap (3/8): Home runs lead Eaton, Burleson and more from Fort Worth area

Weatherford 15, North Crowley 0 (3 innings)

The Kangaroos scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning and Kaylee Embrey singled in Grace Thompson to complete the run-rule in their District 3-6A opener on Tuesday night.

Thompson started the third with a triple and scored on an Embrey groundout. Weatherford scored seven runs with two outs. Thompson drove in two runs with a single to right field that made it 13-0.

Weatherford led 6-0 after the first inning. Embrey had an RBI triple and Hannah Reed followed with an RBI double. Reed scored on a hard ground ball to center by Landry Fonseca. Thompson made it 5-0 with an RBI single to center.

Lauren Belles was the winning pitcher with two hits allowed and five strikeouts. Thompson was 3 for 3 with three runs driven in and two runs scored. Embrey was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Burleson 14, Mansfield Timberview 0 (5 innings)

Bentleigh Inocencio hit a lead off home run and Emily Jacobs added a two-run shot two batters later as the Elks opened District 8-5A with a win.

Macy Browder and Beau Slade added RBIs as Burleson led 6-0 after the first inning. The Elks added two more runs in the third and six in the fourth.

Browder made it 7-0 on an RBI double to left and she scored on an RBI single by Brianna Trevino. Olivia Marks and Browder had back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth.

Browder was 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Marks was 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Madalyn Shaw also collected three hits. Taylor Crumby was the winning pitcher with two hits allowed and eight strikeouts.

Keller 6, Keller Central 0

Sadie Beck had a one-hit shutout and struck out eight batters as the Indians began District 4-6A play with a win over the Chargers.

Beck finished with 73 pitches and 60 strikes. She recorded seven pop flies and five groundouts.

After a scoreless first inning, Keller took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Meredith Henderson RBI single. Jorey Hood led off the second with a single and scored on a pair of Central errors. Hood singled in the fourth and scored on a Marissa Espinoza triple to left. Ashley Breeding also singled and scored on the hit.

Keller collected 11 hits. Four players, Hood, Espinoza, Breeding, Beck and Mya Gonzales all had multiple hits.

Espinoza and Kaiya Fabela both drove in two runs each.

Byron Nelson 9, Southlake Carroll 6

The Bobcats recorded 17 hits with three from Lauren Wachowiak and Rylee Williams in their District 4-6A opener.

Byron led 2-0 after the top of the first inning on an Amber Stanic RBI single and Avery Couch RBI double.

Carroll tied it at 2-2 when Morgan Cashon had a lead-off single and scored on a Claire Carrick triple to left. Carrick scored on a Jordan Stewart RBI groundout.

The Dragons took a 4-2 lead in the third before Byron scored four in the fourth. After Williams picked up a one-out triple, she scored on a Johnnie Sanchez single to center. Reese Ladewig followed with a two-run homer to left. Niya Munoz gave Byron a 6-4 lead on an RBI double.

Carroll cut the lead to 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning on Lillian Cooper’s RBI single. Tristyn Brennan’s two-run single put Byron up 9-6 in the sixth.

Boswell 7, LD Bell 0

Alli Stidham allowed three hits and struck out 11 as the Pioneers won their District 3-6A opener over the Blue Raiders.

Stidham also had an RBI when she drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning. Boswell got its first three batters on with all singles.

Malia Jones singled in a run and Layla David also drew a run-scoring walk to make it 3-0.

Byrdie Skipper singled in Harleigh Russell in the second and David added her second RBI for a 5-0 margin.

Jones hit a two-out single in the fourth and David followed it with a double to right. Jones scored on a Bell error. David doubled in the final run in the sixth.

David went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Jones went 2 for 3 and Skipper also had a pair of base hits.

Mansfield 15, Waco 0 (4 innings)

Hawwa Townsend struck out eight batters and went 2 for 4 with three RBIs at the plate as the Tigers opened District 11-6A play with a big shutout win.

Mansfield started off with seven runs in the first inning. Jadyn Ferguson had a lead off single and scored on Macy Hamilton’s double to right. Hamilton scored on a Townsend single. Gabby Burd’s single made it 3-0.

Heather Cuddy added a two-run single and Hamilton capped off the inning with an RBI double to left.

Burd homered in the second for an 8-0 lead. Piper Scheurer, Ferguson, Townsend and Maddie Escalon all had RBI hits in the fourth to end the game.

Cuddy went 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Nine different players recorded a hit. Ferguson, Hamilton and Burd also had multiple hits.

Burleson Centennial 8, Mansfield Legacy 3

Bailey Lindemuth allowed two hits and struck out seven in six innings and also hit a home run in the Spartans District 8-5A opener over the Broncos.

Legacy led 2-0 with RBIs in the second and third innings.

Centennial tied it in the bottom of the third with RBIs from Kendall Miller and Kylie Barnes. Legacy led 3-2 in the fifth before Madelyn Hickey and Lindemuth hit a pair of two-run homers to give Centennial a 6-3 lead.

The Spartans added two more in the sixth on an RBI double from Lindemuth and RBI single from Lacie Mendez.

Lindemuth drove in three runs. Mendez went 3 for 4.

Eaton 13, Fossil Ridge 1 (5 innings)

Morgan McGaugh allowed one hit and Breanna Todman and Addie Perry recorded home runs as Eaton started off district play with a win.

McGaugh allowed a run in the second inning and struck out eight batters. After walking the first two batters of the game, Eaton threw out a runner at home and McGaugh got back-to-back strikeouts.

Rian Coon singled for Eaton and scored on a sac fly from Todman. Coon singled in two runs in the second to up the lead to 4-1. Todman blasted a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth and three batters later Raylee Huse’s two-run single made it 8-1.

Caitlynn Bishop also had a two-run single and Perry drove in three runs on an inside the park home run.

Coon went 3 for 4 with two RBI.
