Girls basketball recap (2/14): Brewer makes playoff history and more from Fort Worth area

Brewer 67, Richland 44
Playing in a postseason basketball game for the first time since 2004, the Brewer Bears kept their historic season going with the program’s first playoff win in a long time during a Class 5A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday night in Burleson.
It’s unclear when the program last won a playoff game.
The Bears won a Class 2A state semifinal game in 1958. They also won a regional tournament game in 1963 after beating Duncanville in the first round that season.
Brewer (23-12) will play 5A area No. 1 Mansfield Timberview (24-8) in the second round on Thursday at Arlington ISD Athletic Center.
Timberview knocked off Fort Worth Wyatt on Monday, 76-46.
The Bears led a rather low-scoring first quarter 11-9 and then both teams combined for 34 points in the second quarter. Brewer led 30-24 before turning up the heat after intermission.
Brewer led by 19 after the third quarter.
Richland ends its season 14-16.
Eryn McKinzie led Brewer with 17 of her 19 points in the second half. Aolani Woldai scored eight of her 17 points in the second quarter and Tori Colman finished with 14 points.
Mansfield Legacy 65, Saginaw 58
The fourth-seeded Broncos rallied back from a first-half deficit to beat District 7-5A champ Saginaw in a 5A Region 1 bi-distict game on Monday at Arlington ISD Athletic Center.
Saginaw (25-8) had a hard time missing in the first quarter and got 13 points in the period from star guard Suni Davis. A pair of threes sent Legacy to a timeout and the Rough Riders led 19-10. The Riders took a 22-15 lead into the second quarter.
Legacy went on a run in the second quarter behind Sirviva Legions and Savannah Catalon, who scored eight in the opening frame. Catalon hit a pair of free throws and Legacy led 25-24. Davis hit a layup and the game was tied at 29 before the Broncos led 34-32 at the break.
The two teams traded threes in the third and Legacy’s Esther Daniels hit back to back from deep to push the lead to 49-40 midway through the period. Nekya Baker and Camille Williams kept Saginaw in it while Legacy led by eight after the third.
The Riders could only get as close as five in the final quarter.
Catalon scored a team-high 23 points while Maddie Griggs added 16. Legions chipped in 12. Legacy will face Granbury in the next round after the Pirates edged out Denton Ryan 37-36 on Monday.
Davis led all scorers with 25 while Williams had 16.
Euless Trinity 41, Keller 39
Trinity out scored Keller 9-0 in the final quarter including a 3-pointer by Brooklyn Jackson with 2.5 seconds left as the Trojans downed the Indians in a 6A Region 1 bi-district game at College Park Center in Arlington.
Keller (24-8) led 39-32 entering the fourth quarter and tried to take the air out of the ball, but a couple of steals by Alisha Nunley and a couple of turnovers by the Indians fueled the Trojans comeback.
Trinity (19-13) advances to the area round and will face El Paso Franklin (25-5).
Baskets by Bre’Awn Gates and Jayla Stewart, sandwiched around a Nunley steal, cut the Keller lead to 39-36 with 5:12 left in the game. Nunley’s steal and layup with 3:06 left pulled the Trojans to within 39-38.
Keller didn’t get a shot off in the final six minutes until Cambridge Mathews tossed up an off balance three at the buzzer that was just off the mark.
Jackson led all scorers with 12 points on four three pointers. Kamryn Taylor and Nunley had 10 each for Trinity.
Sarah Graves hit three 3-pointers in the first half and led Keller in scoring with nine. Ava Dunagan added eight for the Indians.
LD Bell 47, Timber Creek 33
Twin sisters Hallie and Jayden Rhodes helped Bell pull away with a 12-2 fourth quarter run, eliminating Timber Creek in their 6A Region 1 bi-district game at College Park Center in Arlington.
The Rhodes sisters had four points each during the run that gave the Blue Raiders a 40-29 lead with 1:37 left. L.D. Bell (27-8) led 28-27 after three quarters.
Hallie Rhodes did much of her damage in the first half scoring 10 of her game-high 16 points. The dynamic point guard also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Jayden Rhodes finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Timber Creek (24-10) led 14-10 after one quarter and had a 9-2 run starting late in the first period and into the second. Jordan Gillespie’s only two points of the night at the 2:49 mark of the second quarter gave the Falcons an 18-12 lead, but L.D. Bell rallied to take a 21-20 lead at the half.
K.J. Walker led the Falcons with 13 points. Gillespie pulled down 14 rebounds for Timber Creek.
The Blue Raiders advance to the area round and will face Midland Legacy (28-5).
Mansfield Lake Ridge 49, Killeen Ellison 35
For the third time in program history and first since 2015, the Lake Ridge Eagles are moving on in the playoffs. Kylie Marshall scored a game-high 23 points and Lake Ridge won the 6A Region 2 bi-district championship on Monday at Robinson.
Lake Ridge (16-14), which finished fourth in the District of Doom 11-6A, will play Rockwall in the second round. Rockwall blew out Wylie 53-25 on Monday.
The Eagles shut down Ellison in the first quarter and led 9-5. But Ellison out scored Lake Ridge 16-9 in the second and went into the break up 21-18.
Lake Ridge held Ellison to seven points in the third and seven points in the fourth to pull away. Laniyah Smith added eight points for the Eagles.
Arlington Bowie 52, Lake Highlands 49
Trailing in the fourth quarter, the Bowie Volunteers rallied back and hung on to beat Lake Highlands in a 6A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday in Lewisville.
Bowie (19-14) will play Braswell in the next round. Braswell beat Hebron 52-37 on Monday.
The Vols led 14-9 in the first quarter and 23-17 at intermission, but Lake Highlands would take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Bowie had its best quarter all night, scoring 20 points in the final frame. Three Vols scored in double figures led by Alaisha Brown’s 19 points. Seniya Wilson and Blessing Teamer added 11 points apiece.
Burleson Centennial 75, FW Arlington Heights 45
Four Spartans scored in double digits as the Spartans routed the Yellowjackets in a 5A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday in Fort Worth.
Centennial (20-16) advances to the area round to play District 6-5A champ Lake Dallas, which eliminated Aledo on Monday.
Heights (24-9) kept up with Centennial in the first half, only trailing 20-17 after the first quarter and 39-30 at halftime.
But the Spartans out scored Heights 22-8 in the third to pull away. Centennial out scored Heights 36-15 in the second half.
Amyria Walker and Alexis Mayner led the way with 16 points each while Macie Grosskurth and Alicia Melcon added 13 and 12 points.
