LIVE UPDATES: UIL realignment news from Dallas-Fort Worth area, rest of Texas

The UIL will release its 2022-24 realignment Thursday morning at 9 a.m. The DFW coaches meeting, originally set for Thomas Coliseum, was canceled due to inclement weather.

However, the new districts will still be posted HERE at 9 a.m.

Check back here for the latest realignment updates in the Fort Worth-area, and across the rest of Texas.

Aledo vs. Denton Ryan

Two Texas powerhouse football programs will collide for the next two seasons as the Aledo Bearcats and Ryan Raiders were aligned in District 3-5A Division 1.

Aledo has spent most of the past 20 years as a small 5A school, but with enrollment increasing, the Bearcats moved up from 5A D2 to 5A D1 for the 2022-24 realignment.

The Bearcats have won a UIL 11-man state record 10 football state championships with nine of those titles coming in the past 14 seasons.

Ryan has won three titles, most recently during the 2020 season.

The two teams have combined for 197 wins and 14 losses since the start of the 2015 season (7 seasons). Both teams have won district all seven years without dropping a district contest.

Bump up the mileage

Cleburne makes the move from 5A D2 to 5A D1 and along with Granbury and Midlothian, those football teams are about to pile up the gas bill.

Those three teams were aligned with Killeen ISD, which is the midway point between Waco and Austin. Add in Waco High and Lake Belton (Waco area), there’s about to be some long night for those programs.

It will be Cleburne, Granbury, Midlothian, Red Oak, Waco, Killeen, Killeen Ellison and Killeen Shoemaker in District 4-5A Division 1.

Cleburne and Granbury are 250 miles round trip to Killeen while Midlothian is 270 miles round trip.

Back to Fort Worth

Lake Worth football is happy with its return to a Fort Worth-area district. During the past two seasons, the Bullfrogs were in the same district as Decatur, Gainesville, Burkburnett and Wichita Falls Hirschi.

A trip from Lake Worth to any one of those four schools and it’s at least 120 miles round trip with the exception of Decatur, which is 80.

The Bullfrogs return to the district they were in during the 2018-20 realignment along with Fort Worth Carter-Riverside, Dunbar, Eastern Hills, Diamond Hill-Jarvis, Western Hills, Kennedale and Castleberry.

Moving on up

Several Fort Worth-area schools bumped up a classification for the next two years, including Argyle from 4A to 5A.

In football, the Eagles went from 4A D1 where they’ve been a top tier program in the state to 5A D2. Argyle quickly becomes the favorite in District 3-5A D2 with Carrollton Creekview, Denton, Frisco Emerson, Frisco Independence, Frisco Memorial and Lake Dallas.

In the past 13 seasons, Argyle has only lost 15 games with state titles in 2013 and 2020. The Eagles also went to the title game in 2014 and 2015.

Midlothian Heritage also moves from 4A D1 to 5A D2 in football. However, in sports like volleyball and girls soccer, Heritage and Argyle are in two of the top districts in DFW, 7-5A and 8-5A with such teams like Colleyville Heritage, Grapevine, Midlothian and Burleson Centennial.

Crowley goes up to 3-6A and Mansfield Legacy lands in 11-6A.

Headed east

Richland and Birdville go to Region 2 in football (5-5A D1) and joins Newman Smith, RL Turner and four Dallas ISD teams. Mansfield Timberview, which went up to D1, also joins.

Timberview should be the favorite to win district and Richland and Birdville should also make the playoffs.

Better competition

Kennedale volleyball and basketball got some good news after they were aligned with better teams this time. The Wildcats have been in a bad district over the past two years.

Volleyball has gone 14-0 in district without dropping a set with scores likes 25-5 while girls basketball has posted scores like 99-1 and 111-12 this season alone.

Kennedale will be in District 10-4A with Alvarado, Ferris, Godley, Hillsboro, Venus and Waxahahcie Life.
