Basketball recap (1/11): Southlake Carroll sweeps doubleheader and more from Fort Worth area

Boys

Southlake Carroll 55, Keller Timber Creek 36

The Dragons went on a 19-0 second-half run to pull away from the Falcons during their home win in District 4-6A on Tuesday night.

Carroll (12-11, 2-1 in 4-6A) was in the area 6A rankings for the first time this season and backed it up with the win.

Tied at 24-24 during halftime, Carroll led 27-26 early in the third quarter when the Dragons began their run.

Christian O’Connor got a put back and Roman Rolle’s reverse layup made it a 7-0 run and 34-26 lead with three minutes left in the period. Carter Ruck hit back to back 3-pointers that increased the lead to 40-26. O’Connor made good on a Timber Creek turnover and pushed the run to 15-0 and Carroll hit another three to take a 19-point lead after three quarters.

The run went to 19-0 early in the fourth before Timber Creek hit a free throw to snap a seven-minute scoring drought.

Timber Creek (14-10, 0-4) led 13-9 after the first quarter.

Ruck and Ben Estis scored 17 points apiece for Carroll and combined to hit eight 3-pointers. Ruck hit five 3s with three of them coming in the decisive third quarter.

Dylan Nguyen and Caleb Smith led the Falcons with 11 and nine points.

Keller 72, Byron Nelson 44

The Indians, No. 4 in the 6A area rankings, handed No. 2 Byron its worst loss of the season during a District 4-6A showdown on Tuesday night.

Keller went to 17-8 overall and 4-0 in district.

Byron dropped to 16-7 and 2-1.

Everything went right for Keller, which outscored Byron Nelson in all four quarters. The Indians led 14-8 after the first quarter and 34-18 during the break.

Three Indians scored double digits led by Wyatt Bell and Jaden Boyle’s 15 points. Sven Verloop added 10. Nine players on Keller scored. Parker Hannah and Blake Bahr added nine and eight points.

Keller extended its lead with a 20-13 third quarter and 18-13 fourth quarter.

Finley Bizjack led Byron with a game-high 21 points.

Mansfield 51, Mansfield Lake Ridge 36

Despite trailing at halftime, the Mansfield Tigers used a big second half to beat the Eagles in District 11-6A on Tuesday night.

The Tigers improved to 13-9 overall and 2-2 in district.

Mansfield only scored five points in the second half and trailed the Eagles 21-19 at intermission.

But Mansfield out scored Lake Ridge 15-9 in the third quarter and 32-15 in the second half.

Jaxson Colten scored eight of his 10 points in the first quarter for Mansfield. Cam Williams had a team-high 18 points with 14 coming in the second half.

Rylan Kennedy and Jaden Wilson led Lake Ridge with 14 and 11 points.

Haltom 86, FW Paschal 59

The Buffalos knocked down a school record 18 three-pointers during their win in District 3-6A over the Panthers on Tuesday night. The win pushed their mark to 3-1 and 13-7 overall.

Jeremy Snow was hot from downtown for Haltom going 9 of 12 from behind the arc and finished with 30 points and five assists.

Marlon Carrington added 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Jonathan Frausto chipped in 15 points on 5 of 6 shooting from three.

Girls

Southlake Carroll 54, Keller Timber Creek 38

Entering the week as the new No. 1 Class 6A team in the area rankings, the Carroll Dragons flexed their muscles in the second half to pull away from the Falcons in District 4-6A on Tuesday night.

Carroll improved to 19-4 overall and 5-0 in district.

Timber Creek dropped to 18-7 and 3-2.

After the game was tied at 11 entering the second quarter, Dragons’ guard Camryn Tade hit back to back threes to force a timeout at 17-11.

But the Falcons scored the next eight points to grab a 19-17 lead. Deja Lumsden, who scored 10 of her team-high 14 in the first half, began the run with a lefty layup.

Carroll fought back to take a 23-22 lead at intermission.

The Dragons hit the first three baskets in the third quarter and a Kylie Swanson pass to Tade pushed the Carroll run to 12-2. Milania Jordan’s jumper beat the buzzer and Carroll led by 12 after three quarters.

The Falcons got within single digits midway through the fourth, but Taryn Barnes connected on a 3-point play to make it 12 again with two minutes to play. Jordan scored 12 points for Carroll. Barnes added nine.

Granbury 63, Aledo 59

The Pirates edged out the Ladycats in District 5-5A on Tuesday night. Granbury out scored Aledo 34-27 in the second half.

Granbury led 14-11 after the first quarter.

Aledo led 32-29 at halftime.

Granbury’s Ella Hamlin led all scorers with 25 points. Nina Parker added 15 for the Pirates.

Addyson Hebel led Aledo with 24 points. Claire Byars chipped in 22.

FW Southwest Christian 62, Fort Worth Christian 40

The Eagles, the two-time defending TAPPS 5A state champs, defeated the Cardinals in district play on Tuesday night.

SCS improved to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in district.

Ananda Jenerson led the Eagles with 17 points. Harper Cookston added 15 and Karsen Bryan and Olivia High chipped in nine apiece.

Saginaw 74, FW Wyatt 36

Camille Williams scored a game-high 29 points and Suni Davis, who was named a McDonald’s All-American nominee, added 26 as the Rough Riders routed the Chaparrals in a District 7-5A showdown on Tuesday night.

Arlington Bowie 57, Arlington Martin 50

Bowie improved to 4-1 in District 8-6A after its win over Martin on Tuesday night.

The Volunteers trailed the Warriors 27-18 at halftime, but came out and out scored Martin 24-14 in the third quarter and 39-23 after the break.

Kennedi Webb scored a game-high 20 points for Bowie. Taryn Perkins added 16. Blessing Teamer chipped in eight.
