Fort Worth Wyatt boys storm back past Dunbar and more from Fort Worth-area basketball

Boys

Wyatt 74, Dunbar 62

Myles Rigsby scored 21 of his team-high 28 points in the second half and Wyatt rallied back in the final six minutes over Dunbar on Tuesday night at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

Wyatt trailed 56-50 with 5:56 left in the fourth quarter after a corner three from Dunbar’s Caylon Jones.

The Chaparrals called a timeout and came back with back-to-back layups to pull within two and forced Dunbar to take a break.

Wyatt scored eight straight capped off with baskets from Dwayne Bradley and DK Crawford that gave the Chaps a 62-58 lead with 2:32 left. Rigsby made two straight buckets to get to 24 points and Wyatt led by eight with under a minute to play.

Jamarion Bridgett scored 14 for Wyatt.

Jones led Dunbar with a game-high 32 points with 27 of them coming in the second half. He put on a show in the third quarter with three 3-pointers and 12 points to help Dunbar grab a 43-32 lead. Wyatt responded with the next seven points and the Wildcats led the Chaps 45-42 entering the fourth.

Jones would hit three more threes in the final period. Jonathan McLane added 12 points for Dunbar. Tyree Graves chipped in nine.

Timber Creek 49, Haltom 47

Three Timber Creek Falcons scored in double figures led by Caleb Smith’s 14 points as the Falcons edged out 6A area Top 10 Haltom on Tuesday night.

Jacob Porter and Leo Luna added 13 and 11 points for Timber Creek, which trailed 30-23 at halftime.

The Falcons still trailed by seven after three, but doubled up the Buffalos 18-9 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Colleyville Heritage 69, Irving 58

Leading 29-27 at halftime, Colleyville Heritage outscored Irving by 10 in the third quarter to help pull away during a win on Tuesday night.

Carson Stillwill led all scorers with 20 points for the Panthers. Sammon Johnson added 11 and Connor Hornberger had 10.

The Panthers led 21-13 after the first quarter, but only scored eight in the second as Irving pulled within 29-27 at the break.

Mansfield Timberview 63, Mesquite Horn 59

Chendall Weaver and Donovan O’Day combined for 35 points on 12 field goals as the Wolves used a strong fourth quarter to edge out Horn on Tuesday night.

The Wolves, No. 1 in the area 5A rankings, only scored 10 points in the first quarter, but did tie Horn at 26 at the end of the first half.

Timberview outscored Horn 24-18 in the fourth quarter. Braylon Crosby scored 10 for the Wolves and Jared Washington added eight.

Girls

Mansfield Timberview 56, Everman 38

Chrishawn Coleman (16 points) and Desiree Wooten (14) led the Wolves to a win at Everman on Tuesday night to open play in District 8-5A.

Timberview (9-6), which is ranked No. 1 in the area Class 5A rankings, led 16-7 after the first quarter. The Wolves extended the lead to 23-11 after a three from Kamryn Wilson midway through the second quarter.

Tamaiya Mims hit Coleman in the lane and Timberview led 31-19 at halftime.

The Bulldogs (12-4), No. 5 in the area rankings, cut it to nine in the third quarter, but a Coleman basket pushed the Wolves back ahead by 14 with 2:45 left in the period. Timberview started the fourth quarter on a 10-4 run capped by a 3-point play from Wooten, the Star-Telegram player of the year in 2019.

Synia Dewater led Everman with a game-high 18 points. Dariana Stockman added 12.

Argyle 40, Decatur 23

The top-ranked Argyle Eagles remained perfect this season with a 19-0 record after taking down the Decatur Eagles on Tuesday night.

Decatur scored the first nine points of the game looking for the upset bid. But Argyle closed the period with a 9-2 run. The run continued after Caroline Lyles’ 3-pointer pushed Argyle ahead 14-11. Argyle led 16-13 at halftime.

Argyle led 28-21 after the third quarter.

Justin Northwest 43, Birdville 27

Avery McConnell scored 17 points as the Texans picked up a win over the Hawks on Tuesday night in District 6-5A.

Sydney Zenon added 10 for the Texans.

Birdville was held to two points in the first quarter and three points in the fourth quarter.

Dunbar d. Western Hills

The Wildcats beat the Cougars in district play to help head coach Candice Isaac to her 100th career win with the program.

Tomi Graves led Dunbar with 33 points. Tityanna McKinney added 21.
