Byron Nelson star drops 40 points, Keller girls win in OT and more from Fort Worth area

Richland 71, Fort Worth Christian 56
The Royals closed out the first quarter with a 17-5 run and led by more than 20 during their non-district home win Tuesday night over the Cardinals.
Richland (6-2), ranked No. 19 in the state and No. 4 in the Fort Worth-area, got back-to-back layups from football star CJ Nelson. A 3-pointer pushed the lead to 7-2 and the Royals went on a 9-0 run before FWC guard Alex Bossinakis drained a three near halftime to end the streak.
The Royals had their biggest lead of the first half at 26-9 after another layup from Nelson, who was the first to double digits and finished with a team-high 20 points.
Xavier Peyton assisted on a Mark Rucha bucket to make it a 16-point lead and the Cardinals (3-9) cut it to 31-18 on a corner three from Quinten Hupp.
Richland answered with a 10-3 run before Bossinakis drained another long three to beat the halftime buzzer. The Royals led 46-26 in the third and then 56-30 on a 3-point play from Peyton.
Bossinakis led all scorers with 21 points. Hupp added 11.
Nelson scored 11 of his 20 in the second quarter. Peyton finished with 10 points.
Byron Nelson 72, FW Dunbar 70 OT
Finley Bizjack scored 40 points and Braxton Oakley tipped in the game-winner at the buzzer as the Bobcats got past the Wildcats in a non-district game on Tuesday night.
The Bobcats, No. 3 in the Fort Worth-area 6A rankings, moves to 10-4 this season.
Keller 80, Birdville 68
Grayson Price dropped a game-high 24 points and made six 3-pointers as the Indians defeated the Hawks in a non-district game between two Top 10 area teams on Tuesday night.
Keller goes to 10-5 this season while Birdville falls to 7-4.
Gehrig Normand led Birdville with 23 points. Chase Henderson added 17.
The Indians trailed 21-15 after the first quarter, but outscored the Hawks by eight points in the second quarter, two in the third and eight in the fourth.
Price has hit 13 3-pointers in his past two games and more than 25 in the past four.
Three other players from Keller scored double figures, Blake Bahr (13), Wyatt Bell (12) and Brooks Bahr (11).
Girls
Midlothian Heritage 64, Kennedale 60
Two of the top-10 girls teams in the Texas Basketball Coaches Association Class 4A state poll met on Tuesday and the game turned out as you would expect.
No. 7 Midlothian Heritage built a 12-point lead early in the third quarter then held off No. 8 Kennedale 64-60 in a non-district contest at Kennedale High School.
Kennedale (16-5) took its only lead of the night on a basket by Kenzie Jackson to open the game, then the Wildcats never led again. Heritage (8-3) made its first three shots to take a 6-2 lead, but never led by more than five until late in the second quarter.
Kennedale tied the game at 21 on a basket by Jayla Hervey with 3:42 left before the intermission, but Ava Batty, who led the Jaguars with 22 points and 12 rebounds, helped spark a 10-0 run. Heritage led 31-22 at the half.
The Jaguars pushed it to 38-26 on a Batty free throw at the 5:25 mark of the third, but the Wildcats stormed back.
Reagan Jackson, who led Kennedale with 25 points, went on a personal 6-0 run that was interrupted by a Batty 3-pointer. Jayla Jackson-Allen (18 points) added a pair of free throws and Peyton Landry (9) hit a 10-foot jumper with 1:47 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 41-36.
Kennedale cut the lead to two points three times in the final 3:22 at 57-55, 59-57 and 62-60 with the last one coming on a banked-in three pointer from Jackson-Allen.
But Heritage’s Jerzie Bryant and Taysie Trejo hit clutch free throws in the final 2:04 to keep the Wildcats at bay.
Bryant finished with 14 points and six rebounds with Trejo chipping in 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
The teams were close in almost every area with Heritage hitting 17 of 44 two pointers and 3 of 14 threes to Kennedale’s 18 of 45 and 4 of 14. The Jags did out rebound the Wildcats, but only 39 to 33.
The biggest difference was at the free-throw line where Heritage was 21 of 32 while Kennedale went 12 of 19.
Keller 61, Ponder 58 OT
Last year’s Star-Telegram player of the year Cambridge Mathews hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left and the Indians hung on to beat the Lions on Tuesday night.
Mallory McQuietor blocked Ponder’s final shot at the buzzer for the win.
Keller, No. 14 in the 6A rankings, improved to 13-3 on the season.
Mathews, who is signed with Tulsa, made four 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 18 points. Jaeden Gillam also chipped in 18 for the Indians.
Ponder, No. 21 in the 3A rankings, led 24-18 at halftime, but Keller scored 25 in the third quarter led by Gillam’s seven. The Indians led 43-39 after three.
Ponder was led by Kassi Ballard’s 26 points.
Southlake Carroll 74, Saginaw 41
Camryn Tade scored a game-high 24 points as the Dragons got the rout over the Rough Riders on Tuesday night. Carroll improves to 11-3 this season. Saginaw falls to 11-3.
Milania Jordan added 18 points for Carroll, which led 39-24 at intermission.
Katah Gunter and Kayle Nguyen added eight apiece for the Dragons.
Suni Davis had 21 to lead Saginaw.
Boswell 48, Arlington Seguin 30
Nya Robertson, a two-time all-area offensive MVP, scored 10 of her game-high 28 points and the Pioneers beat the Cougars in a non-district game on Tuesday night.
Robertson, a George Washington commit, scored 14 in both halves and made three 3-pointers.
Boswell (12-4), No. 4 in the 6A area rankings, led 19-4 after the opening period and 28-11 at the break.
Asia Johnson led Seguin with 20 points on nine made field goals.
