Euless Trinity football coach Chris Jensen retires after three decades and four titles
After over 30 years with Euless Trinity and Commerce, Trinity head coach Chris Jensen confirmed his retirement announcement from the football program on Tuesday night.
Jensen spent the past seven seasons at the helm while compiling a 69-17 overall record. The Trojans won four undefeated district championships during that span and made the playoffs all seven times.
The Trojans just finished this season during a loss in the Class 6A Division 1 regional round against Allen.
Trinity wrapped up the season 11-2 overall and went 7-0 in District 3-6A.
Prior to the 2015 season, Jensen was an assistant coach including offensive coordinator at Trinity for 15 years alongside head coach Steve Lineweaver. The Trojans won three state titles in 2005, 2007, 2009 and also reached the state championship game in 2010.
This year’s team won 11 games, which was tied for most under Jensen.
Trinity also won 11 games in 2020 and 2017. Both times, the Trojans went to the state quarterfinals. The 22-4 record during the past two years was the best two-year stretch for Jensen as Trinity head coach. In that span, the Trojans scored 1,096 points and averaged 42.2 points per game.
Senior running back Ollie Gordon is Trinity’s latest football star having been on varsity for the past three years. During the past two years, Gordon rushed for over 4,500 yards and 60 touchdowns. Gordon averaged over 180 yards rushing per game behind Trinity’s big offensive line and fullbacks Buddy Leota and Joseph Luna.
One of Jensen’s biggest wins came during last year’s regional round, a 49-45 victory over Allen. Gordon rushed for 450 yards with over 300 coming in the second half.
Another significant win under Jensen came in his first game as Trinity head coach during the 2015 season. The Trojans beat the nation’s top-ranked team De La Salle (California), 26-21.
Before his time at Trinity, he spent 10 years at Commerce High School, just outside of DFW, seven alongside Lineweaver. Commerce went to the state title game three times, winning a championship in 1999.
