Lake Ridge wins first game since 2019 and more from the Fort Worth area in Week 8

Mansfield Lake Ridge 44, Mansfield 37
Mansfield Lake Ridge jumped out to a 21-7 lead, saw it disappear and then held on in the fourth quarter for a 44-37 win over Mansfield to pick up its first win of the season.
The Eagles (1-6, 1-3 in District 11-6A) snapped a 16-game losing streak, winning their first game since the end of the 2019 season.
Kennan Miller had four touchdown passes to lead the Eagles in the win. Wesley Smith and Marcus Hayes hauled in a combined seven passes for a total of 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Mansfield (4-3, 2-2) erased the early deficit and led 23-21 in the third quarter before Lake Ridge outscored the Tigers 23-14 to end the game.
Eaton 22, Keller Central 19
In a back-and-forth game, Eaton scored the only points of the second half on a Tyler Fussell 4-yard touchdown run to give Eaton the 22-19 win over Keller Central on Thursday.
Eaton (7-1, 4-0 in District 4-6A) scored the game’s first 15 points before giving up 19 straight to Keller Central in the second quarter. The Eagles’ defense tightened up in the second half and only allowed 170 total yards to the Chargers (2-5, 0-3) for the entire game.
Keller 38, Keller Timber Creek 14
Tre Guerra threw for two touchdowns and Jackson Kraatz rushed for another two scores as Keller rolled to 38-14 win over Timber Creek on Friday night.
Keller (6-2, 2-2 in District 4-6A) scored on the first drive of the game on a Kraatz 14-yard run. The Indians opened the second quarter with another score to go up 14-0 before the teams traded four touchdowns.
After leading 21-14 at the half, Keller scored 17 straight points in the third quarter to blow the game open and end a two-game losing streak.
Byron Nelson 45, Keller Fossil Ridge 42
Logan Cundiff’s touchdown pass to Daniel Cobb proved to be the game-winner for Byron Nelson in a 45-42 win over Fossil Ridge on Friday.
It was a close game throughout as both teams held no more than one-score lead, which included five lead changes until midway through the fourth quarter on a Michael Giordano run to make it 45-35.
Jacob Wilson led Byron Nelson (5-3, 2-2 in District 4-6A) with 405 passing yards and five touchdowns with three of them going to Gavin McCurley. McCurley and Landon Ransom-Goelz combined for 12 receptions for 295 yards receiving.
Richland 36, Birdville 29
SMU commit CJ Nelson threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Mark Zamora with 24 seconds left that powered the Royals to a 34-29 win over the Hawks.
Nelson threw two touchdown passes as Richland (5-2, 2-2 in District 4-5A D1) erased a 21-7 deficit by outscoring Birdville (3-4, 1-3) 29-8 over the game’s last three quarters.
Nelson tallied 278 total yards and four total touchdowns.
Caleb Kargbo rushed for 146 yards and a score while Aiden Dollar tacked on 85 on 18 carries with three touchdowns to lead Hawks.
South Grand Prairie 42, Arlington Sam Houston 21
South Grand Prairie (5-3 overall, 2-2 District 8-6A) helped solidify its playoff hopes with a 42-21 win over Arlington Sam Houston (3-4, 0-3) on Thursday night.
The Warriors scored 28 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to pull away from the Texans. The Warriors had four scores of 56 yards or more.
A.J. Newberry (14 carries, 114 yards) scored on a 56-yard run in the second quarter, Warriors’ quarterback Michael Stallworth followed with a 58-yard scoring run. Jean Marc Sattie (4 carries, 96 yards) added a 67-yard scoring run late in the third quarter to give South a 42-14 lead.
The teams scored 21 points in the first 2:44 of the game. After Sam Houston scored on a 34-yard pass from Justin Tone to Tavi’On Jenkins on its first series, Jaden Stanley returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for an SGP TD.
The Texans fumbled the kickoff that followed and Stallworth hit Matthew Ramirez with a 5-yard scoring pass with 9:06 left in the first quarter for a 14-7 advantage. Stallworth added a 13-yard scoring pass to Duncan Kantenberger early in the third quarter.
Tone accounted for all three scores for the Texans with a 2-yard scoring run and a 22-yard TD pass to Daniel Adenugba in addition to the opening score. Tone finished with 164 yards passing completing 11 of 24 passes.
Polytechnic 26, Trimble Tech 6
Polytechnic (3-4 overall, 2-2 District 4-5A D2) kept its playoff hopes alive dispatching Trimble Tech (1-6, 1-3) on Saturday, 26-6.
Trevon Atchison led the Parrots with 113 yards rushing on 18 carries including a 1-yard TD run with 8:41 left that put the game out of reach at 19-6.
Running back/quarterback/wide receiver Quincy Carter added 102 rushing yards on 13 carries for Poly, threw for 53 yards completing 2 of 5 passes including a 42-yard scoring pass to Jordan Armstead, and caught 4 passes for 48 yards with a 20-yard TD from Omarion Millsap.
Millsap, who had 77 rushing yards on 10 totes and 61 passing yards, opened the scoring with a 21-yard run.
Running back Michael Iglesias paced Trimble Tech with 120 yards on the ground on 23 carries and scored the Bulldogs only TD on a 55-yard run.
