Prosper holds Boswell to two hits as Eagles get jump start in regional semifinals
All it took was one big inning for Prosper to take down Boswell and the Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in their Class 6A Region 1 semifinal series on Tuesday at Boswell HS.
EB Bobbitt capped off a five-run third inning with a two-run single and Abbey Beasley threw a two-hit gem as the Eagles beat the Pioneers 6-1. Prosper looks to close out the series in Game 2 at 7:30 pm Thursday at Prosper.
Beasley matched up with Boswell starter Haley Parker, a Northwestern State signee. The two pitcher dueled it out to keep it scoreless through two innings.
Prosper loaded the bases in the top of the third with a pair of singles and a walk before the first out. Sydney Lewis (Maryland commit) grounded into a fielder’s choice to second, but a run came across the plate for the 1-0 lead. Next batter, Ayden Allen (Houston) hit a single in the gap between first and second and Gabby Coffey (Mississippi State) scored to make it 2-0.
An error on Boswell plated another run and Bobbitt got a pitch through the infield for two more runs and a 5-0 lead.
Beasley didn’t allow a hit through three innings, but did get into a jam in the bottom of the third when Boswell had runners on first and second. But Beasley was able to leave the frame without any damage.
The Pioneers, in the regional semis for the first time in program history, finally got their first hit in the fourth. After Emma Robertson (Houston) drew a lead-off walk, she scored from first base on a deep RBI double to right center from Rayna Sadler (Ottawa) to cut it 5-1.
Prosper got its final run in the top of the sixth when Coffey hit a long fly ball to right field for an RBI double.
Boswell’s other hit came on a two-out single from Hailey Evans in the seventh. Beasley struck out five batters in 6 2/3 innings before Elissa Griffin recorded the final out. Griffin is the projected Game 2 starter vs. Parker, who struck out three in seven innings.
Prosper is in the regional semifinals for the first time since 2009.
The winner will play Flower Mound or Southlake Carroll in next week’s 6A Region 1 final. Flower Mound and Carroll play in a one-game series Friday at Denton Guyer.
