One of the area’s top returning quarterbacks will play, serve his country at Army
Arlington Martin rising senior quarterback Zach Mundell announced his commitment to Army on Thursday.
“I’d first like to thank my family and coaches for supporting me through this process. With that being said, I’m excited to announce my commitment to not only further my football and academic career, but the opportunity to serve my country at Army West Point,” Mundell said in a tweet.
Mundell also had offers from Navy, Air Force and Illinois State, according to 247Sports.
The 5-10 dual-threat QB has accounted for over 3,800 yards of total offense and 49 touchdowns in the past two seasons.
Mundell was voted District 4-6A Offensive MVP last season after throwing for 1,500 yards and 20 TDs to just three interceptions. He rushed for a team-high 742 yards and 16 TDs.
He averaged 6.7 yards per carry and a team-high 57 yards per game.
The Warriors went 11-2 and reached the Class 6A Division I regional round.
Mundell rushed for 100 yards and three TDs in four games. He had a season-high 174 yards in their Week 1 win vs. Austin Lake Travis. He also rushed for 164 yards in their first-round playoff win over San Angelo Central.
