Timberview, Burleson Centennial to play for state berth; Duncanville eliminates Bowie

Mansfield Timberview 50, Wichita Falls Rider 41

The Wolves, defending 5A state champs, are headed to the Class 5A Region I boys basketball final.

Timberview (28-8) outscored Wichita Falls Rider, 29-16, in the second half to win 50-41 at the Coliseum on the campus of Western Texas College in Snyder.

The Wolves held the Raiders to just one field goal in the second half, which came on a 3-pointer with 1:15 left in the game.

Timberview got 16 points from Ahmand Richardson and 12 from Jared Washington.

Rider (32-5) was led by Kellar Owens with 14 points, 12 of which came from the free-throw line. The Raiders finished the game just 11 of 35 from the field and missed 18 of 21 from 3-point range.

Rider took a 25-21 lead into halftime behind nine points from Jacob Rodriguez and 10 of 24 shooting from the field. The Raiders led for much of the first half and trailed just once, 3-2.

Rider made 10 of 24, while Timberview was just 8 of 26. But the Wolves used an 8-1 run at the end of the first half to close within four at halftime. Richardson led the Wolves with eight points in the first half.

Burleson Centennial 65, El Paso Eastwood 47

Jacob Stuckey scored 23 points to lead the Spartans to a 65-47 win against the Troopers in the second 5A Region I semifinal on Friday night in Snyder

Centennial (32-6), advances to its first regional final to play District 5-5A opponent Timberview at 2 p.m. Saturday at Western Texas College. Centennial, 5-5A champ, swept Timberview in the regular season.

The Spartans outscored the Troopers 26-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Stuckey scored 12 of his 23 points in the fourth, all on 3-pointers. For the game, he made 7 of 9 from beyond the arc.

Tayton Conerway added 15 for the Spartans, Zach Bolf scored 13 and Keryn Collins chipped in 11.

The Spartans started strong and led 10-0 early on and 26-15 in the second quarter before the Troopers rallied to pull within 27-25 at halftime.

Centennial made 22 of 44 from the field and 9 of 15 from 3-point range.

Eastwood (29-8) was led by Kenneth Quinonez with nine points, George Garcia with eight and Ryan Martinez with seven.

Duncanville 59, Arlington Bowie 44

Bowie’s magical playoff run ended Friday night in the 6A Region I semis at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth to the No. 1 6A team in the state and defending champs.

The Volunteers finished fourth in 4-6A before beating 3-6A champ LD Bell in the first round. They added two more wins to reach the regional tourney for the second time in four years.

Juan Reyna led Duncanville with 20 points (four 3-pointers). Damon Nicholas chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.

Bowie was led by Tyronn Burdine’s 13 points. Alfred Washington added nine.

The Panthers advance to Saturday’s 1 p.m. regional final against Odessa Permian, which knocked off Richardson. The winner will clinch a berth into the state tourney next week in San Antonio.
