CLEBURNE 11, WHITEHOUSE 8
After losing a 7-0 lead, Cason Gregory’s two-run triple highlighted a four-run fifth inning as the Yellow Jackets completed the sweep in their 5A Region II area round series Saturday at Cleburne.
Prestyn Hewitt hit a two-out, two-run single to help Cleburne take a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
RBIs from Marcos Guereca and Slayton Day extended the lead to 7-0 in the second, but Whitehouse scored seven runs in the fourth to take an 8-7 lead. Willie Rangel scored in the fifth on a fielder’s choice to tie the game 8-8.
Cleburne takes on district rival Midlothian, which beat Royse City in three games, in the regional quarterfinals.
JOSHUA 3, SULPHUR SPRINGS 1
Zach Peters allowed four hits and struck out 13 as the Owls won Game 3 of their 5A Region II area round series at Rockwall.
Joshua, which won 13-2 on Friday, will take on district rival Corsicana in the regional quarterfinals.
Brek Galbreath doubled in a run in the fourth, and Blake Alexander added an RBI ground out.
Andrew Bell’s RBI triple in the sixth gave the Owls a 3-0 lead.
CARROLL 12, PEARCE 2 (5)
The defending 6A champions completed the sweep via run rule at Globe Life Park. Carroll will play District 6-6A champ Marcus, which swept Waxahachie, in the regional quarterfinals.
Joe Steeber and Luke Gornell combined to scatter five hits with four strikeouts.
Yanluis Ortiz’s RBI double sparked five straight hits for the Dragons during a seven-run fourth inning. Austin Hale, Brandon Howell and Grant Golomb added RBI singles.
Riley Garcia singled in a run in the fifth, and Thomas Wrehe ended it two batters later with an RBI single to right.
BENBROOK 9, HILLCREST 2
Travler Moore hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, and John Henson drove in five RBIs, as the Bobcats completed the sweep in their 4A Region II area round series at Everman.
Benbrook will play Crandall in the quarterfinals.
Moore hit an RBI single in the first, and Henson added a two-run single. Payton Poole drove in a run and scored on a two-run double from Henson in the fourth.
Four pitchers combined to scatter three hits with nine strikeouts.
TRINITY 9, MIDLAND LEE 5
Nico Baumbach drove in three RBIs and added two doubles as the Trojans won a one-game area playoff in Wichita Falls to advance to the 6A Region I quarterfinals.
Baumbach’s RBI double in the first gave Trinity a 1-0 lead. Dylan Crooks’ RBI single and an RBI double from Carson Paiboon extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth. Baumbach added a two-run double during a four-run fifth inning.
Trinity will face Frenship in the quarterfinals.
LEGACY 9, AZLE 1
Nathan Rooney went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Kayden Voelkel allowed one hit and struck out five batters in five innings, as the Broncos swept their 5A Region I area round series at Northwest.
Legacy will face Colleyville Heritage in the quarterfinals.
The Broncos scored five runs in the first on an RBI triple from Rooney, a two-run double from Nathan Price and RBIs from Voelkel and Cameron Clark.
Rooney added an RBI single in the fourth.
LITTLE ELM 6, AZLE 5
LITTLE 12, AZLE 3
The Lobos erased a 5-1 deficit, Lauren Lucas hit the go-head two-run triple in the sixth in Game 2 and Little Elm went on to win Game 3 to capture its 5A Region I quarterfinal series at Northwest.
Little Elm advances to the regional semifinals for the first time to face El Paso Chapin.
Azle scored all five runs with two outs in the second. Abigail Bradley drove in two with a double to center, and Paige Anderson added a two-run single.
Madison Adams hit an RBI double in the fourth.
Leah Salinas, Madison Adams and Lucas each had three hits in Game 3. Alyssa Adams drove in four runs.
FORNEY 14, JOSHUA 2 (5)
Savanna DesRochers hit a three-run home run, and Sadie Hewitt went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, as the Jackrabbits completed the sweep in their 5A Region II quarterfinal series at Cleburne.
Forney will face McKinney North, which swept Frisco Independence, in the regional semis.
The Jackrabbits led 3-0 in the first inning following an RBI fielder’s choice from Hewitt and an error on the Owls. Forney extended the lead to 4-0 on an RBI triple to right from Savannah Hughes.
Hughes added an RBI double during an eight-run fourth inning. Trinity Cannon added an RBI single.
Caleigh Cross recorded two RBI singles and three stolen bases.
BROCK 14, HENRIETTA 5
Jessica Leek and Kelsi Tonips combined to go 6 for 9 with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs, as the Eagles swept their 3A Region I quarterfinal series at Bowie.
Landry Felts and Tonips hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the seventh.
