The Raiders gave the No. 2 team in 5A an early scare with a 4-4 tie through 2 1/2 innings, but the Panthers scored one in the third and added five more in the fifth to win a 5A Region I one-game playoff and advance to area at Dallas Baptist.

Ryan jumped on Heritage (30-2) early with two runs in the top of the first before the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom half when A&M signee Logan Britt led off with a single and scored on a double from the potential No. 1 draft pick in Bobby Witt.

Witt scored a batter later on an RBI single from Baylor signee Nick Balsano.

Jakob Berger grounded into a fielder’s choice and Colby Kroutil singled in a run.

Dylan Bivins and Parker Last drove in runs in the third to tie the game, but Chandler Freeman belted a lead-off home run for the Panthers to make it 5-4 in the bottom of the third.

Berger singled in another run and Witt drove in two more in the fifth.

Heritage will await the winner between South Hills and Burleson in the second round.
