DFW Baseball/Softball round up April 18: Birdville, Carroll, Trinity clinch in final softball games


Birdville 6, Brewer 2

University of Texas bound Grace Green struck out 11 batters while going 2 for 4 with an RBI as the Hawks beat the Bears to clinch the final playoff spot in District 7-5A during the final regular season game on Thursday.

Rachel Warren went 3 for 3 and Jasmine Bell and Lencia Powell added RBIs for the Hawks, who scored 5 runs during the final two innings.

Boswell shut out Grapevine to put Birdville into a 3rd-place tie with the Mustangs. Azle beat Chisholm Trail to grab the 2 seed.

Euless Trinity 12, Richland 6

After Richland scored 5 times in the top of the 2nd to tie the game, Trinity responded with 5 more in the 3rd to pull away from the Rebels in District 3-6A and clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2014.

Piper Hankins went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI while MacKenzie Lucio was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI.

Trinity pulled into a tie with Richland with a 6-6 record, but clinched the 3-seed with a season sweep.

The Rebels, who got home runs from Madison McKay and Krystal Lindsey, are tied for the final spot with San Angelo Central after the Bobcats beat Haltom 9-7.

Carroll 5, Timber Creek 2

Kelly Shackelford and Lauren Long combined to allow 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and the Dragons beat the Falcons to clinch the final playoff spot in 5-6A.

The Dragons will face Flower Mound in the first round.

Kansas commit Katie Gee gave Carroll a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the 1st and Piper Harness, who finished with 3 RBI, had a 2-run double in the 3rd.

Karizma White and Serenity Hill homered for the Falcons.


Legacy 5, Burl Centennial 3

After Centennial took down the Broncos at Legacy on Tuesday, the Broncos returned the favor on the road to pull back into a first-place tie in District 5-5A.

Both teams are 10-2 in district with 2 games left.

The Broncos broke open the game with a 4-run inning in the 3rd. Legacy scored on an error and Texas Tech commit Nate Rombach blasted a 3-run home run to left field.

Kayden Voelkel went 6 innings and allowed 3 hits while striking out 7.

Miguel Santos hit a 2-run homer for the Spartans in the 4th.

Lake Ridge 4, Grand Prairie 1

Entering the night in a 3-way tie for 1st in 7-6A along with SGP, the Eagles took down the Gophers to remain atop the standings with two games left.

Texas State commit Tony Robie had a strong performance on the mound while Luke Potter drove in 3.

Martin 4, Arlington 0

Zach Hudspeth threw a 4-hit shutout and struck out 12 batters and the Warriors beat the Colts in 4-6A.

With Lamar’s loss to Bowie, Martin improves to 10-2 in district and sits alone in first place with 2 games left.

Collin Adams gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 1st with an RBI ground out. Ethan Carroll drove a run in the 4th while Elijah Nunez recorded an RBI single. Cooper Nohinek capped off the scoring with an RBI double in the 5th.
