Watch as former MLB pitcher, World Series champ congratulates LD Bell coach for 500th win
Micah Ford and Trinity Smith combined to allow eight hits and six strikeouts as LD Bell defeated Haltom 4-1 on Tuesday night during a District 3-6A baseball game.
Tied at 1-1 in the 5th, the Raiders extended the lead to 3-1 when Eli Ford singled in a run and later scored on an error. LD Bell added another run in the 6th when Colin Ruby scored on a pass ball. Smith threw 4 innings and allowed 2 hits with 5 strikeouts.
The win gave head coach Paul Gibson his 500th career victory.
LD Bell improved to 18-8 overall and 7-2 in district, a game up for first place over Euless Trinity.
Following the game, former players, administration and some area high school coaches congratulated Gibson, who’s been coaching for 26 years, on Twitter (@LDBellBaseball), including one from former MLB pitcher Dontrelle Willis.
Willis was a 2-time all-star while playing for four teams. He won a World Series in 2003 with the Marlins and was voted NL Rookie of the Year the same season.
