Dallas-Fort Worth high school soccer players of the week March 28-April 4, 2019

Birdville freshman Pierce Wear and Castleberry sophomore Caitlin Buendia have been picked as the latest Dallas-Fort Worth high school soccer players of the week for games March 28-April 4.

Wear has 19 goals and 9 assists this season. After trailing 3-0 vs. Braswell in the bi-district round, the Hawks rallied to force overtime and followed with a win in PKs to beat the Bengals.

Wear scored twice to help the comeback and added another score in the shootout. Wear scored the only goal in area in Birdville’s 1-0 victory over Everman on Tuesday.

Birdville is in the regional quarterfinals for the 3rd straight season where it plays Burleson at 7 p.m. on Friday from RL Anderson Stadium in Mansfield.

Buendia and the Lions have won their first 3 playoff games including in PKs to beat Argyle on Thursday in the regional quarterfinals. They are in the regional tourney for the 2nd straight season and play next Friday April 12 at Northwest ISD Stadium at 10 a.m.

Castleberry’s leading scorer this season, Buendia scored 4 times and dished out 3 assists in bi-district against Springtown. She added 2 assists in a 3-2 win in area over Brownwood on Monday.

But her biggest goal of the year came with 2:49 left in overtime on Thursday vs. Argyle. It tied the game up and sent it to PKs where she scored the eventual game-winning goal on the Lion’s 5th attempt.

Buendia has 30 goals and 22 assists on the year.
