DFW soccer recap 3/28: Brewer boys make history, 4-seeds Everman boys, Burleson girls win


Everman 3, South Hills 2

The Bulldogs erased a 2-0 deficit to rally and beat the 6-5A champion Scorpions in a 5A Region I bi-district game on Thursday at Scarborough-Handley Field.

South Hills (19-5) earned a free kick from 30 yards out and Javier Almanza curved a perfect pass to a cutting Alvin Duran, who headed the goal in the 5th minute.

The Scorpions added to their lead in the 25th minute when Eric Duran finished off a Gerson Hernandez inbound pass from 30 yards.

But Everman (14-4-7), which won its first playoff game since 2015, picked up two quick goals in the 27th and 29th minutes, both coming on free kicks from Esai Romero.

The Bulldogs grabbed their first lead when Bairon Ramirez crossed it to Fernando Cervantes, who headed it in the box left of the South Hills’ goal keeper in the 64th minute.

Everman will play Friday’s winner between Birdville-Braswell in the area round.

Brewer 1, The Colony 0

Adrian Melendez scored in the 77th minute to send the Bears to their first playoff win in program history against the Cougars in a 5A Region I bi-district game at Marcus High School.

The Bears will play Friday’s winner between Burleson and Carter-Riverside.

Legacy 2, Southwest 0

The Broncos got goals from Saul Barron and Bruno Gallegos to beat the Raiders and win their first bi-district title since 2011 during a 5A Region I playoff game at Martin High School.

Legacy (16-4-4) will play Lake Dallas in area. Lake Dallas scored with two seconds left in the 2nd overtime to beat Saginaw.

Conner Contreras and Trevor Carpani picked up assists and Erik Wolanin earned the shutout.


Burleson 3, South Hills 2

The Elks ended a 7-year drought after eliminating 6-5A champion South Hills in a 5A Region I bi-district game at Scarborough-Handley Field. It’s their first playoff win since 2012.

Burleson (15-7-3) picked up a goal in the 15th minute on a Kylie Jo Harris strike in the box.

South Hills (19-7-1) tied it in the 33rd minute on a Cristal Saldivar score, but the Elks grabbed a 2-1 lead at intermission after Maycie Massingill hit a strike from 5 yards out.

The Scorpions tied it again in the 47th minute on a Johana Rodriguez goal. Burleson took the lead for good when Jordan Walker found the net in the 66th minute.

Burleson will play Colleyville Heritage, which beat Denton Ryan 3-1 in overtime, in area.

Colleyville Heritage 3, Denton Ryan 1 OT

Karalie Morrison scored twice including one during the first overtime to send the Panthers past the Raiders in a 5A Region I bi-district game at Northwest ISD Stadium.

Heritage (16-5-4) will face Burleson in the area round.

Ryan scored in the 5th minute on a Wimberley Wright goal, but Heritage tied it on Morrison’s first goal on a free kick in the 53rd minute. Following a 2-1 lead in overtime, the Panthers added their 3rd goal just a minute later.

Joshua 2, Terrell 0

Alyssa Stanley and Caylen Wright scored to send the Owls to a bi-district title for the 7th straight season during a 5A Region II playoff game at DeSoto High School.

The Owls face Royse City in the area round.
