UIL football state championship capsules; preview all 12 games

The UIL state title games begin on Wednesday and conclude on Saturday from AT&T Stadium.

Take a look at all 24 state-title teams and their history at UIL state.

6A Division I: Duncanville (14-0) vs. Houston North Shore (15-0), 7 p.m. Saturday

Duncanville: Panthers’ first trip to state since winning it in 1998. Defense is allowing 6.8 points per game.

North Shore: Mustangs won state in 2015; averaging 54 points per game.

6A Division II: Longview (15-0) vs. Beaumont West Brook (13-2), 3 p.m. Saturday

Longview: Lobos are 28-2 the past two seasons; first state final since 2009.

Beaumont West Brook: Bruins’ first trip to the state title game since winning it in 1982.

5A Division I: Highland Park (15-0) vs. Pearland Shadow Creek (15-0), 11 a.m. Saturday

Highland Park: Scots looking to three-peat as champs; winningest program in state history.

Shadow Creek: Sharks looking to become first team to win state in first year since West Brook in 1982.

5A Division II: Aledo (15-0) vs. Missouri City Marshall (15-0), 7 p.m. Friday

Aledo: Bearcats in their eighth state final in 10 years; looking to win seventh in that span.

Marshall: First trip to state; looking to become second team and first since 1982 to win state from Fort Bend ISD.

4A Division I: Waco La Vega (13-2) vs. Liberty Hill (13-1), 3 p.m. Friday

La Vega: Pirates won state in 2015 and have gone 56-4 the past four seasons.

Liberty Hill: Knocked off powerhouse Carthage and ended its 40-game winning streak, longest in the state.

4A Division II: Texarkana Pleasant Grove (13-2) vs. Cuero (14-1), 11 a.m. Friday

Pleasant Grove: Going for second-straight state title; 29-2 the past two seasons.

Cuero: First trip to the state final since 2004; looking for first title since 1987.

3A Division I: Malakoff (12-2) vs. Grandview (13-2), 7 p.m. Thursday

Malakoff: First trip to the state title game; knocked off 3A power Brock.

Grandview: Zebras won the regular season meeting 28-7; first trip to state.

3A Division II: Canadian (14-1) vs. 1 Newton (14-0), 3 p.m. Thursday

Canadian: Won 2A titles in 2014, 2015; Wildcats are 114-15 under coach Chris Koetting.

Newton: Going for second-straight title; 29-game winning streak and 42-1 the past three seasons.

2A Division I: New Deal (15-0) vs. 1 Mason (15-0), 11 a.m. Thursday

New Deal: Lions are outscoring opponents 45-12 per game; first trip to the state title game.

Mason: Punchers last won state in 2011; have gone 101-9 under coach Kade Burns.

2A Division II: Gruver (14-1) vs. Mart (14-1), 7 p.m. Wednesday

Gruver: First trip to state; Greyhounds have scored 744 points this season.

Mart: Panthers going for second-straight state title; 41-3 the past three years.

6-man Division I: McLean (14-0) vs. Milford (12-1), 2 p.m. Wedneday

Tigers: First trip to state; Averaging 61.3 points per game.

Bulldogs: First trip to state since 2013; Last won a title in 1980.

6-man Division II: Follett (12-2) vs. Strawn (12-2), 11 a.m. Wednesday

Follett: Panthers’ third trip to state in seven years. Averaging 59.5 points per game in the playoffs.

Strawn: Going for back-to-back state championships; Defense allowing 13.9 points per game.
