Benbrook running back named 4A first-team all-state after rushing for 3,000 yards
Benbrook senior running back Quintan Jackson rushed for a career-high 3,067 yards and 37 touchdowns this season for the playoff-bound Bobcats. He finished his three-year career with over 6,200 yards and 72 TDs.
So it’s only fitting the best player in the program’s young existence is the first to be named to the first-team all-state team.
With 3,017 of those yards coming in the regular season, Jackson was named a Class 4A first-team running back by the Associated Press on Tuesday.
“I’m real excited and happy for him,” coach Cody Slater said. “I couldn’t be more proud of him. His work ethic on the field day in and day out the last four years has given him this opportunity. I can’t wait to see him do bigger things at the next level.”
The Bobcats finished their third season at 8-3 with a second-place finish in the district standings.
Jackson rushed for 200 yards in nine games and 300 or more in seven. He had a career-high 445 yards with 5 TDs against Lake Worth. He had 413 yards and 6 TDs against Castleberry.
In his career, Jackson hit the century mark 25 times in 31 games. His career average is 201 yards per game and 8.8 per rush. This season he averaged 279 yards per game and 12.9 per rush.
“It was an honor and I worked so hard to get it, Jackson said. “It’s been my goal since sophomore year to receive the first team all state award and I was excited when I found out.”
Benbrook junior DE Isaiah Carpenter was named honorable mention all-state defense. Carpenter recorded 83 tackles, 26 for loss (team high), 11 sacks (team high) and 3 forced fumbles.
