Watch: Local high school hockey player suspended indefinitely after attack during a game

A local high school club hockey player was suspended indefinitely from USA Hockey after attacking an opposing player during a game on Sunday, according to WFAA.

In the report, the game between the Arlington/Midlothian Attack and the Grapevine/Colleyville Ice Hockey Association was part of the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League. It is sponsored by the Dallas Stars and is sanctioned by the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA), an affiliate of USA Hockey.

After two opposing players collided behind the net, the player from Grapevine/Colleyville struck the defenseless Arlington/Midlothian player in the back twice with his hockey stick.

According to the report, the player received a match penalty, which is called during a game when an official sees a player intentionally try and hurt someone, and an indefinite suspension from USA Hockey. The player will receive a hearing on Jan. 8 regarding the match penalty and a committee can either decide to reinstate the player, overturn the penalty and erase it from his playing record, or extend the suspension.
