For the second time this season, Birdville junior running back Laderrious Mixon is our offensive player of the week.

Mixon was a workhorse on Saturday in the Hawks’ 28-21 overtime win over district rival Grapevine in the regional round, going for a game-high 185 yards and 3 TDs on 37 carries. He added 3 catches for 36 yards.

Each of Mixon’s TD runs gave Birdville (12-1) a lead, his last from the 2-yard line in OT for the go-ahead score. He added a 10-yard score to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead and again from the 42 to make it 14-7.

With his effort, Mixon also goes over 2,000 on the season. He entered the day with 1,860 and now sits at 2,045 with 26 TDs.

Mixon also won the award in Week 8 against Denton.

Haltom senior safety Keyon Shannon is our defensive player of the week after helping the Buffalos keep their dream season alive against Hebron.

Shannon picked off two passes in the first half.

The first set up a Buffalo score that gave them their first lead at 20-16. The second ended a Hebron drive at the Haltom 27 with 28 seconds left in the first half.

Shannon has been lights out this season as he’s among the leaders in the nation with nine interceptions.

The Buffs won 41-30 and advance to their first state quarterfinal in program history.
