Frisco Liberty is rising in the state and area rankings after winning 11-straight games, and senior setter Ashley Pennington is a big reason for the Redhawks’ success.
The Midwestern State commit was voted as the latest Dallas-Fort Worth volleyball player of the week.
“It was an such an honor to be selected, but the best part of that week was beating Reedy and Wakeland,” Pennington said.
Liberty trailed Wakeland 2-1 before winning in five. Pennington had 17 assists, 15 digs and 2 aces. Pennington added 22 assists and 20 digs (both game highs) in a 3-1 win over Reedy.
Liberty, which beat Centennial on Tuesday, is now 22-8 overall and 11-1 in district play.
“We’ve set really high goals for ourselves this season and those two games really showed us and everyone what we are capable of,” she said. “I couldn’t be more excited for my team and what we accomplish the rest of district and well beyond that.”
FW Carter-Riverside Malia Merriman came in second place as she led the Eagles in kills during wins over Wyatt and Southwest. The Eagles are 7-1 in district play.
