Jalen Catalon, one of the top high school football players in the country, announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he’ll miss the rest of his senior season after just one game.

Catalon, a 4-star prospect at Mansfield Legacy, plays quarterback and safety for the Broncos. Legacy opened the season Friday in Oklahoma vs. Jenks High School, losing 35-14.

Catalon injured his left knee while making a tackle on defense late in the first quarter. On the Broncos ensuing series, Catalon, playing QB, was flushed from the pocket and picked up nine yards, but went down without contact.

He started the second half at quarterback, but played two series before finishing the night on crutches.

Catalon said after the game that he was going in for an MRI on Saturday.

He holds 23 offers from TCU, Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, Arkansas and more. He’s projected to commit with Texas, per 247Sports.

Catalon was district MVP in 2017, and 5A all-state defensive player of the year in 2016.

He’s made 276 tackles the past two years with 13 for loss, 10 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, five recoveries and 12 interceptions. He accounted for 2,234 yards and 28 TDs last season for the Broncos, who had their deepest playoff run ever, to the state semifinals.

He’s ranked as the No. 12 safety in the nation and No. 25 overall prospect in the state.

Legacy plays Crowley, 7 p.m. Thursday at Newsom Stadium.
