The Southlake Carroll school district has hired Darren Allman as its new athletic director. The Carroll board approved the hire Monday.

Allman, who replaces Kevin Ozee, had been the head football coach at Colleyville Heritage, where he arrived from Austin Westlake before last season. Ozee left Carroll in November to take the same job with the Arlington school district.

The AD job at Carroll oversees the entire district, from elementary schools through high school, meaning its separate from the head varsity football coaching position. Hal Wasson has coached the Dragons since 2007.

Carroll’s first football game this year is at Westlake, which is coached by former Dragons coach Todd Dodge. Allman went 45-21 in five years at Westlake, winning three district championships, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Euless Trinity beat Allman-coached Westlake in the 2009 Class 5A Division I championship.

The Grapevine-Colleyville school district now will have to make two hires: A replacement for Allman — which will be the third Hertiage coach in three years — and a new athletic director. Phil Blue accepted the same position with the Abilene school district over the weekend. Blue arrived at GCISD last year.
