Football players receive official letters; Cleburne, Boswell, Grapevine girls commit

With Tuesday marking the official day of football players receiving their scholarship letters, some of the area’s top athletes took to Twitter and expressed their excitement.

ALAN BOWMAN (3 stars)

Grapevine senior quarterback Alan Bowman, who enters the fall perhaps the best one under center among Star-Telegram area players, committed to Texas Tech in June.

Bowman threw for 43 touchdowns in 2016 and was voted 8-5A MVP.

JACKSON GLEESON (3 stars)

A second-team all-district wideout last season, Mansfield senior Jackson Gleeson finished with a team-high 428 yards and four touchdowns. The Baylor commit had two 100-yard games.

JALEN KNOX (3 stars)

Committed to Missouri since the start of June, Timberview senior Jalen Knox enters 2017 as one of the top versatile players in the Metroplex. He can play receiver, running back and returns kickoffs and punts.

BYRON HOBBS (3 stars)

Eastern Hills’ senior linebacker Byron Hobbs committed to Texas in April. He had nine sacks, four forced fumbles and one interception for the Highlanders. He added three receiving touchdowns on offense.

SAVE THE DATE

Three of the top area players announced future commitment announcements with Richland senior linebacker Dashaun White (4 stars) being the first, expected to be this weekend.

White, who was first-team all-district with 114 tackles last season, holds 20 offers including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, TCU and Baylor.

Justin Northwest senior offensive lineman Darrell Simpson (4 stars) will commit on Aug. 12 while Arlington Lamar senior defensive end Bobby Brown will close his recruitment Oct. 31 and commit Nov. 2.

Simpson holds 21 offers. Brown has 19.

RAFAEL CARBAJAL

Fort Worth North Side senior linebacker/tight end Rafael Carbajal, a first-team all-district pick, committed to Texas A&M at Commerce on Tuesday.

AUDREY WARREN (basketball)

Saginaw Boswell senior forward Audrey Warren committed to Texas. She averaged 19.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 5.4 steals per game last season. She was voted 6-5A MVP and second-team Star-Telegram super team.

SADIE HOUGH (volleyball)

With volleyball practices officially starting Tuesday, Cleburne senior outside hitter Sadie Hough announce her verbal commitment to the University of West Florida.

Hough enters the season as the reigning District 9-5A Offensive MVP.

KERSTYNN GROBE (volleyball)

Grapevine senior middle blocker Kerstynn Grobe also committed on Tuesday, going with St. Edwards University. Grobe was honorable mention all-district last season as she finished with 67 blocks for the Mustangs.
