Southlake Carroll cross country teams sweep regional meet

UIL regional cross country meets ran on Saturday with area teams and players qualifying for state competition on Nov. 12 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The Southlake Carroll boys dominated the 6A race in Lubbock as senior Reed Brown came in first place.

Brown, an Oregon commit, finished with a time of 14:47.43 - beating out Flower Mound’s Alex Maier by .36 seconds. As a team, the Dragons scored 82 points, 45 points better than runner up El Paso Eastwood.

Along with Carroll, Trophy Club Nelson also advanced to the boys state meet, finishing in third. The top four teams qualify while the top 10 individuals that aren’t on those four teams also advance. Flower Mound came in fourth.

Also going to state- Keller Central’s Eric Casarez (9th), North Crowley’s Antwain George (10th), Keller Central’s Micah Langat (13th) and Keller’s Joel Potter (14th).

6A girls

The Carroll girls teams completed the 6A sweep with its win over Keller by 11 points. Hebron and Flower Mound Marcus qualified while Keller Timber Creek came up short in fifth place.

Keller had three in the top 10 with junior Abbey Santoro (2nd), junior Julia Black (5th) and sophomore Isabel Van Camp (7th).

Carroll had five in the top 20 with senior Gillian Mortimer (3rd), junior Catherine Tracht (4th), senior Ali White (8th), senior Arianna Lopez (12th) and sophomore Sofia Santamaria (17th).

Weatherford’s Sadie Carey came in 14th to qualify.

5A Region I

Grapevine’s Lauren Edwards and Aledo’s Graydon Morris took home the gold in the girls and boys races.

In boys, Grapevine (2nd) and Justin Northwest (3rd) advanced to state while the Grapevine girls came in third.

Other area boys to go to state include Grayson Barber (Colleyville Heritage) and Harrison Tillman (Aledo). Girls to qualify include Binta Ka (Richland), Gracie Morris (Aledo), Maddie Vondra (FW Arlington Heights), Gretchen Pfeiffer (Colleyville Heritage), Eva Mora (Saginaw), Christyn Smith (Saginaw) and Amanda Hurtado (Brewer).

5A Region II

Boy qualifiers- Asa Rice (Summit), Ceasar Limones (Burleson); Girl qualifiers- Sarah Trammell (Burleson Centennial), Soren Underwood (Joshua), Taylor Hayes (Lake Ridge) and Lindsey Claude (Summit).
