Georgia State’s 25-2 third quarter too much for UTA to overcome

A 25-2 third quarter erased Georgia State’s 10-point halftime deficit and led the visiting Panthers to a 68-63 victory over UT Arlington in the Sun Belt Conference women’s basketball opener for both Wednesday at College Park Center.

UTA (5-6, 0-1 SBC) made a run of its own late in the game but missed a tying 3-point attempt with less than 30 seconds left.

UTA senior LaShanda Green led all scorers with a career-high 23 points. Her seven 3-pointers were also a career high.

Georgia State (6-4, 1-0) was led by Madison Newby’s 16 points and 15 off the bench from Morgan Jackson.

The win was the first for Georgia State in five meetings between the schools.

UTA will host Georgia Southern at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
