What they said

“I sure am glad he came to college. I’ve been around great players, coached on two USA teams, some major-leaguers. What’s neat isn’t their talent, but their character. He’s a great student, he comes from an unbelievable family, he’s never high or low. He’s just an even-keeled guy. So it’s even more special when they have the makeup like he does. It’s fun to watch, and it will be fun to watch the next couple years.”

-- TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle, on Luken Baker

“We’ve been playing better and better baseball since the end of the Baylor series. The coaches have told us since the back half of the season, ‘Our best baseball is ahead of us.’ I feel like we are starting to play better baseball. It’s still out there for us to get.”

--- TCU designated hitter Luken Baker

I’m not really that surprised. I’ve seen him do it before.

“I’m not really that surprised. I’ve seen him do it before. It’s a good time to show up. It’s just a crazy weekend for him. Really proud of him. How many home runs did he have, like four? That’s just insane. It was a good weekend to show up.”

-- TCU closer Durbin Feltman, on Luken Baker

“This game was a synopsis of the season. We’re down 8-0 in the second or third inning. At the halfway point, in the regular season, we were down in the dumps and came back. ... We just keep coming back. That’s really not anything we can teach. Kids just have that in their heart.”

-- West Virginia coach Randy Mazey

“It’s devastating. We’ve really beaten all odds. No one expected to be where we are right now. We have the most freshmen of any team in the conference. ... Given the obstacles that we’ve faced, I’d say we won, in our eyes. It’s no one’s fault. It was an incredible run, and I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates and coaches. And hopefully we’re not done.”

-- West Virginia designated hitter Kyle Davis
