TCU catcher Skoug a ‘Champion For Life’ in Big 12’s eyes
TCU catcher Evan Skoug is going for a baseball championship in Oklahoma City. But the Big 12 has already named him a “Champion For Life.”
Skoug was the TCU recipient of the award, presented this week to recognize the “teamwork, leadership, time management, discipline, perseverance and giving back to others through community service” of the players.
The Big 12 recognized a player on each league team.
Skoug, who hit .301 in the regular season with a team-high 18 doubles, homered in TCU’s opening-round victory at the Big 12 tournament. He is a sophomore from Libertyville, Ill.
The Big 12 spotlighted the reason for honoring Skoug: “Off the field, he is one of TCU’s ring leaders in community service. He has developed a strong bond with TCU’s youngest signee, Micah Ahern, a young man who is battling cancer. He is an active leader in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, even going so far as to getting baptized this past October.”
Here are more details about the award on the Big 12 web site.
