Suddenly TCU might have an interesting quarterback battle on its hands when fall camp arrives in three months.

Jon Kitna was a respected backup for the Dallas Cowboys for four seasons at the tail end of his career. His son, Jordan, will look to make a bigger impact for the Horned Frogs over the next four years.

The younger Kitna has decided not to attend his first choice, Michigan State, and will instead play for coach Gary Patterson as a preferred walk on, the Waxahachie senior tweeted Tuesday morning.

The elder Kitna, who served as the Cowboys’ backup quarterback from 2009-2011 and 2013, moved his family to Waxahachie in 2015 to become the high school’s head football coach.

He had been the head coach at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash., Kitna’s alma mater.

In his lone season at Waxahachie, Jordan, 6-foot and 201 pounds, threw for 1,906 yards and 20 touchdowns with three interceptions. He completed 59 percent of his passes. He would have easily surpassed 2,000 yards passing if not for a broken collarbone that kept him off the field for a month.

It certainly makes things a bit more interesting heading into the summer. Kenny Hill, the former Southlake and Texas A&M quarterback who transferred to TCU after the 2014 season, is the frontrunner to succeed Trevone Boykin.

Also in the mix is Fort Worth All Saints product Foster Sawyer.
