Ex-Trinity star, Iowa State run past TCU
The TCU women couldn't withstand a 3-point barrage Wednesday night, falling to Iowa State 80-62 at Hilton Coliseum.
Former Euless Trinity star Nikki Moody had 15 points and a game-high six assists for Iowa State (13-4, 4-2 Big 12). Bryanna Fernstrom had 18 points to lead the Cyclones, who were 13 of 28 on 3-pointers. Seanna Johnson also had 15 points.
Junior guard Veja Hamilton led three Horned Frogs in double figures with 16 points, including 14 in the second half. Junior forward Chelsea Prince pulled down 10 rebounds.
TCU sophomore forward Jada Butts matched a career high with 12 points and had six rebounds, while junior guard Zahna Medley added 10 points.
TCU (11-6, 3-3) struggled early, connecting on just 3 of its first 14 shot attempts, while five Frogs picked up two fouls apiece in the opening 20 minutes.
Trailing by as many as 22 points, the Frogs twice trimmed the deficit to 12. But the Cyclones answered each run with 3-pointers, connecting on 8 of 13 attempts in the second half.
The Frogs remain on the road to take on Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stillwater.
