Bears slip past TCU on late run in series opener
Steven McLean led off the seventh inning with a double and scored on single to center by T.J. Raguse to break a 3-3 tie and Baylor held on to beat No. 10 TCU 4-3 in the opener of a three-game Big 12 series on Friday.
After taking the lead, Baylor turned the game over to its bullpen, which allowed only one hit in the final two innings. Starter Drew Tolson gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits in seven innings.
Joe Heineman allowed a hit and walk in the eighth but got out of the inning. Troy Montemayor got the save with a perfect ninth.
TCU starter Brian Howard gave up three run on six hits, but left with no decision. Preston Guillory (2-2) took the loss for the Frogs, giving up a run on two hits in 2/3 innings. Ryan Burnett retired all four batters he faced.
TCU’s Connor Wanhanen went 4-for-4, including a fourth-inning RBI double to tie the game. Josh Watson had an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Both teams scored on wild pitches.
Aaron Dodson went 2-for-3 and scored a run, and Kameron Esthay had a two-out, two-run triple for Baylor.
