TCU catcher Skoug, with 5 RBIs against OU, named Big 12 player of the week
TCU catcher Evan Skoug, who drove in five runs in the first game of a series sweep against Oklahoma last week, was named the Big 12 player of the week by the conference office Monday.
It is his first such honor and the fourth by a TCU player this season.
Skoug, a sophomore from Libertyville, Ill., who ranks sixth in the country in doubles, was 6-for-10 with a home run, a double and six RBIs in four games last week. He homered and doubled in a 4-for-4 performance that included a career-high five runs batted in during an 11-3 victory against Oklahoma on Friday, triggering a sweep by TCU.
He hit a sacrifice fly and drew a walk and scored in Game 2 against OU and walked twice and scored on a wild pitch in Game 3.
“He really showed what kind of a great hitter he is,” TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle said of Skoug after the opening victory of the OU series.
Right-handed pitcher Luken Baker has twice earned the conference Newcomer of the Week award, and last week freshman left-hander Dalton Horton was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. They are both part of a weekend rotation that included three quality starts last week.
